IBM XIV is a high-end Linux-based storage system with a unique grid architecture.

With teams in the US, Israel and China, the XIV Development Support group provides 3rd level remote support for the XIV system around the globe in a follow-the-sun model.

As an XIV Development Support Engineer you’ll be doing the following:

Troubleshooting the most complicated field issues in a complex IT environments with different operating systems and mission critical applications.

Working closely with SW Developers to design solutions and action plans – both short term workarounds and longer term code fixes.

Recreating customer issues on a replicated lab environment.

Concluding root cause analysis and knowledge base articles

Developing debug and recovery tools in Bash or Python

Training other Support, Testing and Development teams on the system

Occasionally traveling abroad for PoC and training, and rarely for critical field issues.

As part of your training program, you’ll get familiar with the bits and bytes of the XIV system and extend your knowledge in the areas of Storage, Networking, Server and Storage virtualization and more.

Required Skills:

The perfect candidate has:

Knowledge and experience in IT and Data Center technologies – Networking, Virtualization, Databases, Storage

"Naturally born" troubleshooting capabilities

Experience in Storage management

At least 3 years of experience in Linux or other UNIX flavors

Solid understanding of the OS and its internals

Advanced administration skills (Linux/UNIX services, Storage administration)

Fluency with the command line

Fair knowledge of text manipulation tools (grep, awk, sed, vi, regex)

Scripting experience (Bash, Python, or Perl)

Understanding of SAN and NAS concepts: ideas behind block/network storages, CIFS, NFS, multipathing, LUNs, Zoning, and WWPN

Understanding of storage protocols: FC, SCSI, iSCSI, RAID array levels

Excellent spoken and written English, and fair spoken Hebrew

Excellent communication skills

Outstanding service attitude
