NARRATIVE COORDINATOR POSITION

Gameloft, an international publisher and developer of video games for mobile devices (iOS, Android, Java), is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Writer and Narrative Coordinator to join their existing talent pool. Qualified candidates will help lead and organize all local Narrative and Writing elements, coordinating with both local Dev teams and the Narrative Director in NYC to help create exciting new game titles across a wide range of genres from hardcore action to casual simulation and strategy games. Previous hit games and franchises include Order & Chaos, Dungeon Hunter, The Amazing Spider-Man, Ice Age, N.O.V.A., Modern Combat, Gangstar, 9mm, Zombie Infection, Oregon Trail: American Settlers, Assassin’s Creed, and Brothers In Arms.

DESCRIPTION

The role of the Narrative Coordinator will be to function as the central resource for all things narrative related in Gameloft’s Beijing Studio. Working closely with the Narrative Designers to organize pipelines, documentation, the Narrative Coordinator will act as the main point of communication between the lead writers in NYC (U.S.) and local Beijing Development Teams, able to clearly articulate the needs of each and to help generate solutions to development obstacles. Locally, the Narrative coordinator will help foster a strong symbiotic relationship between the game’s mechanics, design, and structure and the narrative/story being used to support and enhance that structure.

Qualified candidates must be 100% fluent in Chinese and in English (both verbal and written).

Ideal candidate will also possess a strong understanding of the mobile game market, media, and storytelling for a global audience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Help generate and maintain design documents (in Chinese AND English when needed) for all narrative elements on multiple projects
- Assist the Lead Narrative Designers in reviewing builds or multiple projects and providing weekly feedback to our many development teams around the world
- Work with the development team to brainstorm creative ways to encapsulate the game’s core mechanics through story and narrative
- Help establish the lore and tone of the world of the game and propose creative and efficient ways to effectively present this world to the player
- Identifying Narrative problems and brainstorming creative solutions with colleagues

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

- Background in Creative Writing, Editing, Theatre, Film, or Game Design
- Displays excellent written and verbal communication skills (both English and Chinese)
- Highly organized
- Possess a strong understanding of visual theory and storytelling
- Possess an in-depth knowledge and passion for the history and theories governing interactive storytelling
- Understand how to present a clear narrative concept flow using Visio, Excel, PPT, or other related tools
- Ability to display a strong understanding of plot, structure, and character
- Must understand how story is used to support game mechanics and enhance player retention
- Must understand and have a strong eye for current mobile gaming F2P trends
- Understanding of basic game design fundamentals and principles
- Ability to work positively in a collaborative environment
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and an awareness of how to navigate limitations and work with available art/programming resources
- Attention to detail
- Ability to meet aggressive deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse environment
- Organized, able to juggle multiple projects at once
- Previous professional experience as a writer in the game or entertainment industry is a BIG PLUS
- Passionate about gaming, boasting an in-depth knowledge of games, game culture, and the entertainment industry as a whole
