Shanghai Disney Resort is seeking a Manager to establish and lead the compliance function. Reporting directly to the Director of Controllership (Controller), this position will be a key contributor to the construction, launch and operations of Shanghai Disney Resort and will help to achieve executional excellence. He or she will be expected to implement effective systems of internal controls that enable other functions to conduct business, while also driving fiscal responsibility and financial performance. In addition to having extensive relevant experience and skills, this individual will be of the highest integrity and a champion of corporate governance. Given the start-up nature of the role, the Manager should expect to maintain flexible hours and collaborate extensively with others, both in China and around the world.
The selected candidate for this role will work for Shanghai Disney Resort, a Joint Venture between The Walt Disney Company and the Shanghai Government with an initial project capitalization of RMB 29B (USD 4.6B). As one of Disney's largest international investments ever and its first theme park & resort destination in mainland China, SHDR is a core part of Disney's growth strategy in the region. Located in Shanghai's Pudong district, the resort is also a key pillar of Shanghai's next five-year plan and will anchor a 20 sq km development zone for tourism and recreation tourism development zone. The resort is targeted to open in late 2015 with a "Magic Kingdom"- style theme park, 2 resort hotels and a 28 sq m retail, dining, and entertainment district.
Responsibilities include:
Lead the development, implementation, and tracking of the internal control environment for the Shanghai Disney Resort.
Develop, implement, and enforce an effective internal controls and corporate governance environment, e.g. policies and procedures, training and communication, ongoing monitoring and audits, periodic operational control reviews, development of recommendations for improvement
· Work in a team-oriented, project driven environment with business unit leaders to improve the internal controls environment and partner with the global Parks & Resorts Segment A&A teams on best practices.
· Partner with Finance and Operations leaders to understand controls processes and procedures. Identify and document internal controls processes and procedures.
· Identify control deficiencies, introduce both Disney and China best practices, and propose enhancements. Present findings and control enhancements to line of business leaders and executives.
· Financial Compliance - Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of IT and non-IT internal controls over financial reporting and facilitate the certification process whereby management can assert internal controls over financial reporting are effective and have no material weaknesses (e.g. balance sheet reserves, payment audits)
· Expense Compliance - Ensure compliance with the Travel and Procurement Policies through audits, interpretation, education and solutions (including petty cash and policy exception approvals)
· Internal Investigations - Investigate internal fraud and policy violations at the Shanghai Disney Resort including, but not limited to, Point-of-Sale (POS) fraud, cash theft and Cast privilege abuse
· Process Controls Improvement - Improve the internal controls environment at the Shanghai Disney Resort by understanding control processes and procedures, identifying opportunities and deficiencies and proposing enhancements (e.g. stroller process reviews)
Internal Controls Compliance - Perform regular audits to test internal control compliance and company policy adherence (e.g. Company chop administration), provide reporting to enable Management to take appropriate action(s) and develop partnerships to share information, review control weaknesses, address immediate concerns and plan action on future initiatives
Be point of contact for all audit initiatives (e.g. Disney Mgmt Audit) and Disney minimum control standards
Recruit, develop and retain a high-performing team
Work collaboratively with other lines of businesses to understand their needs and implement business practices while ensuring that the proper controls are in place and functioning effectively
Required Qualifications: (These are the minimum qualifications you need to be considered for the job.)
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent
CICPA with strong expertise in China Accounting Standards
Minimum 7 to 10 years of experience in Accounting or Finance
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to define a clear vision, motivate others in a positive way to achieve desired results, and develop a successful team
Demonstrated ability to work within a matrix organization and collaborate effectively with multiple partners from different backgrounds
Proven expertise in using and leveraging large-scale ERP systems, such as SAP
Proven ability to understand and work in a multi-faceted, complex business that relies heavily on capital, labor, creative expertise, and technology
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills
Resilience to work within a complex organization and achieve results
Fluent in written, spoken and reading English and Putonghua
Desired Qualifications:
MBA or Master's degree in Accounting or Finance
Expertise in International Accounting Standards and/or US GAAP
Demonstrated track record in establishing the compliance functions for a new business
Prior experience in the entertainment, theme park, or vacation leisure Industry
Interest in networking and partnering with Disney colleagues around the world
