Overall Area Development Responsibilities and Qualifications

• The Senior Landscape Architect/Area Development position will be assigned to the project team responsible for the design and construction of the Area Development works for all Shendi and Government works.
• Responsible for working with all creative, landscape, environmental and operational area development requirements in the resort wide area development design packages.
• Will be responsible for maintaining quality during the implementation of the on site landscaping program during the construction phase and working with the procurement team for the tree farm.
• In addition to having a degree level qualification in a landscape architectural discipline the Senior Landscape Architect must have multidiscipline experience preferably in large scale complex projects. Must have broad, in depth technical knowledge of landscape architecture and construction techniques including softscape, hardscape, irrigation, street furniture, lighting and graphics.
• Previous experience in theme park or large scale diversified design projects and construction is preferred.
• The Senior Landscape Architect must be bilingual in English and Chinese due to the international nature of the project teams.
• The Senior Landscape Architect will report to Director of Landscape Architecture.

Design Phase

• Works with other members of the project team from facility design and is responsible for developing an area development design which incorporates creative, landscape, operational and other WDI facility design and government requirements.
• Works with Disney operational team, landscape, retail, foods, maintenance and security to ensure that their requirements are cost effectively incorporated in the design.
• Responsible for developing and maintaining programmatic design where required during the design phase
• Responsible for interdisciplinary co-ordination within the area development framework.
• Works with WDI core team Landscape Architects and the Local Design Institutes to ensure WDI landscape design standards are incorporated in the design.
• Assists in the preparation and releases of area development design packages. Organizes periodic reviews and ensures that all relevant comments are incorporated in the design.
• Works with the project estimator to evaluate construction economics
• Works with the local governmental agencies to ensure that all code requirements are cost effectively incorporated in the drawings.
• Ensure that scope specification and drawings do not conflict with each other and that they represent the entire scope of work.

Field Work

• Interfaces with our partners and quality assurance team to verify the contractor submittals comply with the design.
• Verifies field adherence with approved plans.
• Undertakes quality control, field verification of construction, hardscape, softscape, utilities (where appropriate) in association with the relevant discipline designer or engineer.
• Supervises all tree and other landscaping works to ensure adherence with specifications and Quality Assurance plans.
• Responds to all area development related requests for information
• Verify all programmatic design requirements are implemented.
• Works with our quality assurance team and the LDI to work out field condition adjustments.

Education Level

• Advanced Degree in Landscape Architecture

Experience Level

• 10 years combined design and field experience
