Purpose of Job:

This position is to ensure supplier’s quality management system is comprehensive and in line with Coleman’s quality requirements. The Quality Engineer will maintain and assist in optimizing the supplier’s quality system to reduce the cost of quality over time by reducing process variations, performing root cause analysis and confirming effective corrective actions are implemented and sustained; implement a continuous improvement program for both products and supplier processes to maximize consumer value.

Job Scope & Major Responsibilities:

Quality:

1. Ensure the supplier has a formal Quality Management System following the corporate guidance. The QMS should include a quality control system per the quality requirement of the respective product category.

2. Conduct supplier audits, including annual QMS audits, line audits, product conformance testing (PCP), follow up visits; provide audit reports/issues logs, including corrective actions according to Coleman QMS procedure.

3. Maintain a CAPA activity log for respective suppliers; metrics including time to close and repetitive issues.

4. Develop and implement supplier improvement programs: manage suppliers on product/process quality improvements, including the supplier & its key subcontractors; use data driven defect analysis, critical parts measurement, set up SPC where applicable and maintain KPI’s for key products/processes/operation; training and related activities.

5. Urgently follow up on quality issues from PSI reports, customer complaints, quality audits and inspections. Lead inspection process to accept, reject or make exception for suspect products. Oversee implementation of corrective actions in a timely manner.

6. Actively support quality aspects of NPD Process and existing platforms by developing/maintaining quality plans, defect lists – capturing the critical to quality aspects of respective product category; audit plans annually for current relevancy.

7. Participate in EP, PP, PSA and mass production activities as it relates to Quality.

8. Improve product quality by understanding the results of failure mode analysis on defective returns in the global regions; identify root cause of quality related defects or potential design changes and suggest appropriate corrective actions; drive suppliers’ DFMEA, PFMEA and continuous improvement.

9. Instruct and monitor suppliers to follow regional regulatory requirements or customer requirements during mass production; archive or maintain quality records (such as test reports, inspection reports CAR reports and certification documents) during mass production.

10. Maintain awareness of global warranty expenses by respective product category. Understand the top offending sku’s within each product category and assist as needed in failure analysis. Implement warranty reduction projects at Suppliers, as needed.

Continuous Improvement:

1. Identify, propose and lead CI project with respective product category / suppliers

2. Assist with implementation of VA/VE events at supplier’s and assure realization of viable opportunities with the goal of maximizing consumer value and quality

3. Lead domestic Lean and Six Sigma events with key suppliers to identify cost reduction opportunities.

4. Maintain a global perspective on all CI projects to insure avoidance of any negative impacts that could affect global or regional products form, fit, function, performance, warranties, repair part compatibility, and certifications.

Requirements:

1 Education - Bachelor of Science in Engineering

2 Experience (Minimum Relevant Experience/Minimum Supervisory Experience)
- 5 years experience in quality and mechanical engineering background

- First hand experience in manufacturing

- Experience working in global project teams in a large corporate R&D environment.

3 Professional Qualifications, Knowledge and skills

- Knowledge of ISO 9000 system/QS9000 a plus

- Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Production. Practical experience in Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing projects and background, preferred

- Know how to use statistics – CPK, Pareto Chart, Regression at the least

- Be competent on Microsoft Excel

- Practical experience with Minitab, preferred

4 Communication skills:
Excellent Chinese communication & conveying abilities

Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written

Strong email / file / report / data spread sheet organizing and writing skills
