Role Summary/Purpose
The Contract Manager will provide broad-based and thorough commercial contract management support to the China Project Management and Services group for all contractual issues regarding the sale, procurement, installation, and testing of Wind Turbine Generators primarily in China. The Contract Manager will build strong liaison with and support the Project Management and Services team in all contractual matters.
Essential Responsibilities
Evaluate assigned contracts to understand scope, schedule, terms and risks
Draft and issue opening letters and change orders
Identify, document, and manage key contractual risks through the life of the contract
Collaborate with Project Managers in the execution of contract obligations
Perform detailed contract analyses in response to emerging issues
Develop negotiation strategies in conjunction with Project Management, prepare for and participate in customer negotiations as needed
Identify and develop margin enhancing recovery opportunities for GE
Defend and mitigate contractual claims against GE and prepare for and participate in settlement negotiations
Manage major insurance claims and subcontractor recoveries
Maintain contract documents, amendments, change orders and key contract data in automated contract management systems
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor Degree (Law, Business, or Engineering) and minimum 5 years contract management or legal counsel experience in the power industry
Strong track record of solving risk claims and counter claims in power industry contracts
Extensive knowledge of and experience with power industry supply, construction, and/or services contracts
Fluency in Chinese and English with effective written and oral communication skills
Ability to manage multiple complex issues concurrently
Ability to travel (30%) within China primarily and occasionally internationally.
Desired Characteristics
OEM, Developer, or EPC experience in power industry
Experience with contract formation, negotiation, administration, and conflict settlement in relation to renewable energy / wind turbine based power generation projects
