Job Title: Insights Consultant (Contractor role)
Location: Shanghai

Background:

Consumer Health Care (CH) China Category team is located in Shanghai with the objective of accelerating CH China growth through innovation and new category expansion in partnership with R&D.
This role will play a critical part in identifying the insights of the market, consumer, and experts for Skin Health and Pain Management, and imbed those insights into business decisions to grow the business from innovation in China.

Job Purpose and Key Responsibilities:

Overall purpose is to fuel sustainable business growth from innovation through leading the generation and application of market, consumer, expert and competitive insight. To be the strategic leadership partner with the Commercial and R&D teams. This role will have ownership of being the Voice of the Consumer and Expert. Responsibilities include: consumer/ expert; Imbedding insights into their respective R&D counterparts; Implementing GSK CI best practices; Interacting with their peers in the Insights community.

The insight role is unique in that it requires being an integral, supportive member of the team whilst retaining the ability to remain the “objective third party” for research results.

Key contacts of this role will be Insight Director, VP China Category Team, China Marketing representatives, Senior Management of Consumer Healthcare, Local insight counterparts, Global insight counterparts

As insight manager you will also play a leading role in developing the overall strategy for Skin Health and Pain Management category, in addition to identifying potential new business opportunities in white space innovation.

Key Responsibilities include:

Develop and identify insight:
- The role requires the ability to clarify business Challenges/ questions, and translate those into solid insight learning Plan.
- Solve complex problems at a strategic level and interact with China multi-functional team and global insight team
- Identifying and deploying Consumer/Expert insights, clearly defined targets, and need states.
- This role is required to manage and integrate extensive amounts of information, data and insights ensuring knowledge is applied and leveraged where relevant across the business. This requires an ability to develop hypotheses, and use sound judgement, and to make these come to life for debate and discussion
- The role will be responsible for setting the Consumer agendas from an Insights perspective.
- The job holder must strike the critical balance between
a) being an integral, supportive member of the business team and
b) retaining the necessary distance and objectivity to challenge where necessary.
Imbed the insight into business decision
- The role must communicate complex idea/insights in a way that all levels and cultures are able to understand and apply
- The role must influence and build confidence at a senior level throughout the organization. Must demonstrate resilience and flexibility to effectively operate within the organization.
- The role will require using persuasion and facilitate agreement with senior level employees throughout the organization.
- The role should consistent enable team put consumer in the heart of the business decision.
Collaborate with Insight counterpart in local China and global, and multi-functional team.
- Trust, respect and transparency are critical to enable the person to inspire the organization.
- Understand the best practice from the counterpart, share or reapply them in China category team.
- Build interdependent relationship with the team.

Essential Requirements:

- Minimum of 8 years experience
- Some experience in Health Care products is preferred
- The experience in Innovation development is preferred
- a BA degree
- Well developed strategic thinking, commercial and marketing skills and experience
- Ability to contribute at a strategic level with the POV of the consumer and expert
- Proven track record in identifying research needs, developing and managing insight programs and utilizing insight information in a fast-moving environment.
- Proven track record of being able to understand consumer and expert insights and integrating them with overall insights and trends
- A proven ability to bring the very best out of suppliers
- Strong analytical skills and ability to influence at all levels.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be impactful and assertive.
- A strong history of quickly gaining credibility, partnering with and successfully influencing senior teams
- Personal credibility, confidence and robustness to influence and challenge senior colleagues, whilst maintaining cultural sensitivity.
- Proactive, problem solving attitude towards business challenges
- Team orientated, collaborative style
- Ability to enable and drive change
- Technical Insights skills of the highest standard will be vital to drive the Consumer First agenda.
- Strategic Thinking: must be able to serve as thought leader and develop key insights that lead business strategy and growth
- Building Effective Relationships: must build strategic partnerships across multiple functional areas (BD, R&D, Marketing, etc.)
- Ability to be the objective voice of the consumer in the business.
