What else do I need to know?
Siemens Supply Chain Management
- The aim of Supply Chain Management is to optimize the value added chain at Siemens in a coordinated manner on the basis of standardized processes. Apart from contributing value to operating results through savings in procurement, this also includes quality assurance as well as guaranteeing delivery reliability and dependable, efficient logistics. All this is tightly intermeshed with the Siemens objective of sustainability.
- Until 2009, Supply Chain Management throughout the Group was organized almost exclusively vertically within the three sectors. When the SCM initiative was launched in April 2009, the idea was to leverage synergy potentials of the company as a whole more effectively. The objective is to achieve sustained optimization over the long term. Among other things this includes building close partnerships with suppliers, particularly in growth markets. The aim here is to establish good cooperation relationships that deliver lasting value to both parties. The selection process plays a vital role in this. Siemens is looking not just for the best suppliers, but also for those suppliers most closely living up to Siemens’ own objective of ‘sustainability’.
- By continually improving the company’s supply chain, Supply Chain Management ensures that Siemens fulfills the expectations of its customers regarding the quality, availability and pricing of its products and services.
- The SCM organization optimizes quality, logistics and production processes as well as procurement by bundling the company’s negotiating power, providing uniform standards, concentrating the supplier base and fostering supplier innovation in the Siemens Product Life Cycle.
- Consequently, the four basic questions for Supply Chain Management are: How can the quality of a product be improved? How can the availability of a product be increased through faster development and production? How can the manufacturing costs of a product be reduced? How can an optimized supply chain create greater value for Siemens?
Pooled Direct Material
- The mission of Pooled Direct is to drive optimized pooling activities for direct materials by utilizing synergies within procurement, maximizing competition and intensifying collaboration with best suppliers jointly with our global network and cross-functional partners.
- We are pooling the relevant demands across Siemens worldwide to maximize negotiation power, to have one voice to the supplier and to drive modern levers in procurement by exploiting commercial and technical synergies.
- Business and people respectively benefit from pooling through improved profitability and better career opportunities. Supply security is as well enhanced thanks to high level relationship management in problematic supply situations.
Indirect Material
- An important strategic objective of Siemens is to become the market and technology leader and be one of the best in the world and in the new innovation-driven growth markets. Environmental protection has a significant role to play in this regard. In January 2009, Barbara Kux launched the Supply Chain Management Initiative (SCMI) so that procurement can play its part in helping Siemens achieve this objective.
- Effective October 1, 2009, this initiative was converted from a project organization into a new corporate department known as Corporate Supply Chain Management (CSCM). Within CSCM, strategic and operational procurement for all indirect material throughout the Siemens group has been brought together in a global organization with the title CSCM Indirect Material.
CSCM Consulting
- Through consulting projects CSCM Consulting supports the sustainable strengthening of competitiveness in procurement, manufacturing and logistics. Within our projects we deliver answers to fundamental operational questions based on proven approaches and tools and support achieving the business targets of our sectors, divisions, business units and regions.
