Job Title: Creative Designer

Repot to: Design Manager

Department: Design

Location: Technicon Shanghai



This position will participate in both internal and clients creative design projects to realize design intent through all design phases (from design inception to production) by being a proactive spokesperson for each project under their control. Responsible for concepts, product design, color, branding, and graphic design. Respond to business objectives with creative and innovative design solutions.




Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assist in developing industrial design concepts that maximize utility, usability and desire amongst Technicon Design’s target customers.

2. Assist in developing solutions that achieve cost goals for the product as well as fit within the selected manufacturer’s core competencies.

3. Provide and communicate, when required, a supporting case for a design direction or detail choices.

4. Proactively partner with Senior Industrial Designers to realize design intent throughout the design and engineering stages, all the way through to production.

5. Maintain a high level of understanding of materials and manufacturing processes to guide the development of achievable and cost-appropriate design concepts.

6. Assist in developing and maintaining appropriate 3D CAD and other design based software skills to effectively communicate with the entire product development team.

7. Maintain a proactive and engaged presence throughout the duration of the design and post-design release phases of a project.

8. Cosmetic direction via color maps, inspiration boards, and perform cosmetic review as required.

9. Interact with engineering and manufacturing to ensure that the design intent is carried through to production.

10. Travel if projects require for short or medium term durations within and out of China.

11. Follow other requests from Management supporting necessary to conduct and enhance business.



Skills and Specifications

1. Conceptual skills as well as a balance of aesthetic sensitivity and mechanical aptitude.

2. Excellent visual skills, critical judgment of form and visual detail.

3. Ability to creatively solve problems at a rapid pace.

4. Capacity to balance creative initiative and ability to take direction.

5. Ability to envision product concepts as sketches, renderings, theme boards, and models

6. Knowledge of materials, manufacturing, and rapid prototyping processes is a plus.

7. Open minded with an adventurous outlook to product design.

8. Maturity, confidence and humility to maintain a positive attitude in a fast paced team environment.

9. Self-motivated and passionate about design

10. Demonstrated ability to clearly present specific design directions / concepts as well as provide their respective support material (research, trend and/or color study, etc.).



Education and Qualifications

1. Bachelor degree in industrial design

2. Minimum 3 years experiences in industrial design

3. English proficiency required
