About China Strategy Office

The role of the China Strategy Office is to serve the needs of Microsoft China overall, across the BGs and SMSG. Our goal is to strengthen our presence in China - by leveraging government and public relations strategies, creating a holistic and integrated R&D and product group strategy, and developing a long term competitive commercial approach that benefits business customers and consumers alike.
Results Required
Scoping - Evaluate and provide accurate estimates and recommendations on scope, schedule, resources (for example, people, physical assets, and budget), compromises, risks, and impact on other business groups or projects, which meet business requirements. Set and manage expectations with stakeholders, and lead project-charter/project-scope document development to facilitate project formation, which result in successful project implementation. Use organizational knowledge and agility to proactively coordinate and integrate scope-change initiatives for programs, which result in effective change management. Be accountable for communicating scope changes, which result in appropriately informing all stakeholders
Project Management - Able to communicate with senior management, including General Managers, on all issues related to program acceptance, and facilitate selection of the solution, which result in improved decision making. Can create detailed project plans that accurately identify all stakeholders and dependencies, and create accurate schedules with milestones, which result in as-forecast and successful completion of programs of large scope, risk, and complexity. Can assist in assessing requirements for resources (for example, people, physical assets, and budget), including identifying resources outside of the business group or Microsoft. Can assist in aligning tasks according to ability, and provide accurate estimates of the impact on other internal and external business groups or programs, which result in effective use of resources. Can assist in recognizing risks at tactical levels by using an assessment of priorities and resource availability through trade-off matrix implications for large-scale programs and develop contingency plans based on best practices that incorporate the trade-off matrix implications, which result in successful risk mitigation.
Communication - Keep senior leaders updated by providing timely and complete executive briefings as needed. Provide accurate communication on project status to appropriate stakeholders, including frequently updating senior management as the key point of contact. Contribute his/her point of view to the decision-making process by providing supporting information and perspective, which result in improved decision making. Communicate appropriately to the specific audience (including General Managers) in a variety of situations and audiences internal and external to Microsoft for appropriate management action. Facilitate meetings by balancing task orientation with discussion and by documenting action items and decisions, which result in effective meetings.
Preferred Experience and Background
-Business Leadership: excellent analytical problem solving skills, including developing industry trends, market insights, competitive dynamics and customer behaviors; abilities to develop quantitative modeling; solid project management skills for both internal teams, cross-functional virtual teams as well as teams that include external partners/customers/vendors
-Communication: Experience in internal and external communication both oral and written
-Operational Excellence: Great orchestration, managing complex processes, excellent ability to connect people, processes and drive cross-group collaboration
-People Leadership: Experience leading without position power; ability to drive consensus across conflicting groups
