As the Network Operations Program Manager you will have responsibility for network operations and coordination of a single large data center facility, or several small data center environments in a given geographic area as part of the Global Network Services (GNS) Network Operations Team. The team consists of highly skilled members who ensure the successful delivery of best-in-class network services to Microsoft’s product groups; such as Bing, Azure, Hotmail, Office365, and Microsoft’s corporate infrastructures. As the Network Operations Program Manager of the site(s) you will be responsible for leading the on-site team or teams in the implementations of standard operating processes. Additionally, you are accountable for the Network Engineers efficiency against Service Level Agreements (SLA), and Key Performance indicators (KPI), customer expectations, and helping guide & improve their skill-sets to drive service delivery. You may also be tasked with performing/managing special data center network infrastructure projects, contributing to global process development, and/or assisting with service design. You will represent Global Network Services during technical escalations occurring in your respective site(s). Persons in this role will be responsible for the coordination and communication of activity among site teams, management teams, and customers, during challenging & broad high-pressure scenarios.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Communication and coordination of efforts with operating partner(s) and staff to ensure standards and best practices adherence in delivery of support of and maintenance to network infrastructure and services in a 24x7x365 environment.
- Participate in teams that cross organizational boundaries and deliver results for Microsoft in network service management.
- Final in-country point of management escalation for networking issues.
- Delivery of post incident reviews to identify and mitigate present and future risks to network service availability.
- Ensure device monitoring and configuration managment systems are effectively maintained for accurate and timely performance and compliance reporting.
- Periodic and daily evaluation of network service performance, incident response, problem managment, issue mitigation against service level agreements (SLA)s.
- Ensure asset repair, replacement, warranty return (RMA), and decommisioning activities are handled and tracked appropriately and sparing levels are maintained effectively.
- Management of release and change processes affecting design and specification of network infrasture, to minimize service impact to customers while delivering enhancement of network capabilities.
- Provide representation for GNS in regular change advisory board (CAB) meetings for all changes impacting regional data center network services.
- Reporting of operational support process metrics and key performance indicators to site and network leads.
- Evaluate, facilitate and ensure adequate qualification and training of network support personnel on applicable vendor and Microsoft specific technologies and standard operating procedures
- Work closely with operating partner(s) and site personnel to identify improvement opportunities and drive operational excellence.
Skills & Qualificactions
- A minimum of 8-10 years of program management experience in the context of network operations or online service operations-related fields is required. Ideal candidate should have general experience with and functional understanding of:
- Routing and switching in highly complex environments
- Active Directory, PKI, and DNS
- Network Management System technologies including SNMP and platforms provided by HP, Tivoli, EMC, BMC.
- Depth of understanding and ability to prescriptive process models, including ITIL v3 and the Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF).
- 4-6 years of experience managing a highly talented technical team.
Experience Required
- BA/BS in business, IT or related field (MBA desirable) or related work experience.
- Must have strong project management skills, including demonstrated success in managing complex projects with cross-functional teams. Experience related to acquisitions, mergers, divestitures or joint ventures, is desirable, but not required.
- Excellent communication skills and team player with ability to build solid relationships with individuals at all levels, in multiple geographies and business functions, both internally and externally.
- Must possess broad problem solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent judgment, decision-making skills, and the ability to work under continual deadline pressure when the situation is ambiguous.
- Strong negotiation skills and conflict management skills.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
