The Team:
Business Intelligence Engineering (BIE) is a dynamic organization that delivers credible data to help Microsoft’s internal business partners and employees gain powerful insights across the various LOBs from its Enterprise Data Warehouse platform. The ability to make faster, better decisions via efficient and reliable management information systems adds tremendous value in driving key business outcomes.
Primary Responsibilities:
As a development lead, he / she has a balanced responsibility of people management, technical guidance and certain hands on architectural work. Specifics include:
- Provide architectural and engineering leadership. Ownership of the design and development of BI solutions and the integration with Microsoft BI technologies, including SQL Server Integration Services, Analysis Services, Reporting Services, SharePoint and Excel.
- Provide technical mentoring, recruit, develop and build a strong cohesive development team for sustained long term success.
- Drive the engineering rhythm and process of the team from planning, resource allocation, scheduling, design, coding, deployment etc.
- Lead a team of talented SDEs to collaborate with upstream SD team, downstream IT teams, release and operations team to design and develop high quality, high performance, innovative BI platform, BI service and BI solutions.
- Lead the team to ensure quality, reusability, sustainability, scalability and reliability of our platform, components, tools, and code libraries by making the right design considerations and assessments.
- Drive engineering excellence and deliver result without compromising quality on schedule.
- Optimize team effectiveness with cross feature team and cross discipline collaborations.
- Work closely with BIE Redmond and India teams to contribute to BIE team global success.
Qualifications:
The candidate should be self-directed, be adaptive to dynamic fast-pacing environment and is able to collaborate and mentor team members. He / she should possess a strong technical background and a good grasp of software engineering principles, exceptional problem solving, design, and programming skills. A demonstrated ability to come up-to-speed quickly on a new technical domain is presumed. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work well in a global team are critical to succeed in this role. Solid knowledge and experiences in BI, web development and cloud compute are necessary.
Additional qualifications include:
- 5+ years of software development and web development & implementation experience with a proven track record of shipping.
- Solid experiences in BI architecture, passionate about new web technology, demonstrated technical thought leadership and architecture ability. Good knowledge of Microsoft BI stack is a plus.
- Ability to provide and accept constructive design/implementation feedback during design/code reviews.
- 3+ years of people management experience.
- BS or MS in Computer Science.
- Experience working on projects with geographically distributed teams is a bonus.
