Roles & Responsibilities
We are looking for a Senior program manager lead who is results oriented and passionate about building a high quality multimedia (image and video) search experiences for users in both US and international markets.
Multimedia search is a high volume business. Image search generates about 1.3 billion queries per month, whereas video search including YouTube makes 4.2 billion queries a month, more than double the current size of Bing as a whole or 25% of Google query volume. The extraordinary breadth of image and video content available online will expand at staggering rates as regular people, creative, enterprises, entertainers, studios, production companies, cable and broadcast networks, publishers, retailers, local businesses, and others contribute to the corpus of creative content online. YouTube alone reports over 35 hours of video being uploaded per minute. Cisco predicts that the Internet will be four times larger in 2014 than it was in 2009, with Internet video alone increasing from over one-third of all consumer Internet traffic to 57% of all consumer Internet traffic.
As a Senior program manager lead, you will be responsible for creating a compelling product vision for multimedia search experience and technology, especially in video where the core competency lies within this development center. You will be responsible for leading a team of program managers to analyze customer, market and technology requirements within the multimedia search domain and putting together release plans and leading the engineering team to deliver innovative features for Bing. This role will involve close collaboration with development and test team leads in China and US to plan, design, implement, and ship user experience and technology to Bing users. You will also work with Microsoft Research researchers on driving product and technology innovations.
You must have strong core program management skills - understanding the search industry and internet user behavior, understanding multimedia content growth trend, interested in deepening domain expertise on multimedia search, being analytical and detailed-oriented, having a proven track record of effectively leadership to deliver software products, and be fluent in oral and written communication in English.
Required Qualifications
-The successful candidate should have a minimum of 8 years of development and/or program management experience, with at least 3 years of people management experience. The candidate must possess a strong computer science or mathematical background, a good grasp of software engineering principles, exceptional problem solving skills. Multimedia processing, machine learning background, UX design/HCI background are a strong plus to succeed in this role where these skills are at the core.
-A demonstrated ability to come up to speed quickly on a new technical domain and having strong customer empathy is desired. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, written communication skills and the ability to work well in a distributed team environment are very important.
