DESCRIPTION -

This role’s prime task is to provide an electro-mechanical part cost estimation service to the rest of the business where appropriate. This service will range from supporting Purchasing with ‘should-do’ costings, to supporting engineers in generating ‘what-if’ costing scenarios. Responsible for analyzing and compiling data on factors that influence costs and to advise designers and/or purchasing staff on ways to reduce part costs. Responsible for presenting data in a clear and concise way and in maintaining a continuous improvement regime for this service.

RESPONSIBILITIES -
? Using appropriate and relevant cost estimating software tools (eg Galorath) provide ‘should-do’ analysis and costs for a range of bespoke purchased parts
? Provide support and advice to design engineers in order to produce cost efficient designs whilst still meeting the design specifications and regulatory requirements
? Be able and willing to present ‘should-do’ cost analyses to suppliers and be able to challenge their costings and justifications, where appropriate.
? Champion value engineering specific activities to enable the business to continually reduce part costs and avoid cost redundancy in new parts. For example, promote standardisation.
? Support the business by providing design guidelines to help optimise cost versus function. For example, material costs, fabrication costs, protective finishes etc
? Support the Engineering Change process to ensure cost control
? Continually support the business in identifying cost reduction opportunities
? Benchmark Elekta processes for best practice
? Benchmark similar components or parts
? When capacity requires, liaise with approved external contractors to supply a ‘should-do’ cost service
RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES -
? Suitable Engineering degree or similar highly desirable
? Material experience in a manufacturing environment preferably within a complex capital equipment manufacturer
? Demonstrate examples of successful cost reduction projects using a proprietary costing software tool or other eg customised spreadsheets
? Knowledgeable about current manufacturing processes
? Demonstrate assertiveness and self-confidence and be able to present conclusions and recommendations to both suppliers and management professionally
? Demonstrate an ability to read technical documentation and create cost analyses from that information
? Ability to interface and positively influence suppliers on own
? Readiness and ability to travel in UK and abroad (incl. far east) potentially up to 20% of time
? Demonstrate an understanding of value engineering techniques
? Respond positively to changes in organisation and processes, be adaptable and flexible.
