The Role we are hiring
We are looking for a talented and self-motivated in-house counsel who is aligned with our culture and values to be based out of Beijing, Chengdu, or Xi’an. You will be part of our global legal team and the sole lawyer based in China. While senior lawyers in other regions will provide some supervision and support to you at the beginning of your career with us, with your experience growing we expect you to manage the legal works in China autonomously and also work with other global team members from time to time.


Responsibilities
? Draft, review and negotiate legal and commercial documents (contracts, proposals, RFP and other legal or corporate documents);
? Provide efficient, timely and practical legal or commercial related advice to the business (for example, in relation to contract, intellectual property rights or employment matters);
? Proactively recognize and highlight concerns and areas of potential exposure to risk as well as escalation of legal issues to the Management Team as appropriate;
? Work with the Sale, Finance Team, Immigration Team, People Team and Information Security Team on various matters requiring legal input or assistance;
? Address and manage legal compliance issues and provide training to improve awareness of various legal requirements;
? Manage outside counsel as needed; and
? Work on legal matters involving other regions or global initiatives as needed.


Requirements
? Aligned with ThoughtWorks culture, values and vision.
? With due respect to others and people of different background or cultures, committed to contributing to social justice;
? Admitted to practice in China;
? Bachelor of Law degree from a PRC university; JD or LLM degree from an overseas law school in a common law jurisdiction a plus;
? At least 3 years post graduation experience in a law-firm or in-house position in China, with experience in the IT industry;
? Native Chinese and fluent spoken/written English, with ability to review, draft and negotiate English legal documents;
? Attributes required to perform the role:
o Ability to work independently as the sole lawyer, with good time management and influence skills;
o Ability to work collaboratively with people of diverse backgrounds and with different opinions;
o Adaptive and ability to quickly learn new skills;
o Strong research and analytical capability; and
o Ability to make decision.
