职位描述

Job title: Head of Business Development and Advertising, Greater China
Line manager Head of NPG, Greater China
Location: Shanghai
Purpose of the role: To generate sales revenue for nature publishing group commercial and custom products in this key market. Fundamental to this role is the development of productive and long-term external client relationships. To develop sales strategy, lead and drive its implementation, under the direction of the Head of NPG, Greater China.


Key Tasks will include but are not limited to the following:
1. Develop and implement a business development and advertising sales strategy for greater China and contribute to product development strategy for this market.
2. Develop and refine strategies for potentially working with external partners to maximise product sales
3. Develop and grow sales revenues across all NPG commercial advertising, sponsorship and custom products to achieve financial targets.
4. With the Head of NPG develop and implement strategy for large scale projects and partnerships to secure multi year renewable projects, to deliver a process and a pipeline for identifying relevant opportunities, prioritizing these, coordinating and sourcing resources to work on such opportunities
5. Systematically work with large scale commercial projects from initiation through all relevant phases including the successful sale and project delivery.
6. Creatively work with existing and new clients to propose new project topics and areas that will generate revenue.
7. Work collaboratively with NPG colleagues to create a culture of success, excellence and continuous development.
8. Work with the publishers and product managers to identify new products, custom projects, consultancy opportunities and other revenue-generating opportunities.
9. Build effective relationships with all relevant internal departments such as editorial, marketing, production, and accounts.
10. Work closely and collaboratively with global NPG business development and sales staff – Sponsorship, Display Advertising, NatureJobs, SLBU, NPG Education, Scientific American and any other parts of the Group’s business development areas - to realise synergies and generate sales opportunities.
11. Develop a strong understanding of our business segments and stay informed of the latest trends and developments. Take advantage of this knowledge to direct business opportunities for the team.
12. Attend industry events and make on-site visits to clients as required by the business.
13. Manage advertising and business development staff in greater China to achieve the above aims

Qualifications:

? A postgraduate qualification in science or medicine (or equivalent relevant professional experience)

Skills/knowledge:
? Strong commercial drive alongside proven experience in maximising revenue potential and business development
? A thorough understanding of the scientific research community and its needs and aspirations
? Positive ability to develop long-term professional relationships with key members of the scientific community
? Sound knowledge and interest in science
? Strong management skills
? Strong interpersonal and influential communication skills, with effective negotiation and presentation skills (ideally very strong skills in English and mandarin)
? Highly self-motivated, resourceful and achievement oriented
? A creative approach to strategic planning and problem-solving
? Active, supportive team player
? Strong interpersonal skills and a customer service ethos are essential, as is attention to the detail of implementation.
? Exceptional written and verbal communications skills, able to influence others
? The ability to lead and inspire a team
? Attention to detail in anticipating and ensuring that key aspects of performance and of new initiatives proceed as they should.
? Ability to combine a consultative approach towards editorial and commercial stakeholders with decisiveness in implementation.

Experience:
? At least 6 years experience working in science publishing and/or science communication with strong experience in business development a must
? Knowledge and experience of digital publishing
? Desirable: Experience of working in the domain of bibliographic analysis and consulting in the world of scientometrics / research evaluation
? Comfortable with both print and digital publishing media
