POSITION SUMMARY

An advanced level hardware and software systems engineering position requiring a broad degree of software system design experience. Individual may be given general requirements in all areas of syetem development and support. Assignments will be defined generally with the expectation that the situation will be analyzed and a solution found with the defined constraints. Product integration, project management and leadership skills will be further developed. Individual will coordinate with supervising managers as necessary and handle day-to-day project leadership duties.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to department manager and assigned supervisor or project manager. May supervise less senior engineers and co-op students. Individual interfaces with and supervises other development engineers both inside and outside the department. Also interfaces with other groups and disciplines as necessary for the completion of assignments including Quality Assurance, technical writers, development technicians, product support personnel, other project managers, and product managers. Interfaces with external customers, marketing, education groups, and manufacturing as required by assignments. Coordinates schedules and related activities with other groups as required by project.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

1. Defines assignments, schedules, quality expectations, and other project criteria for specific projects.

2. Completes all assignments in a timely manner, delegating responsibility as appropriate.

3. Generates, tracks, and maintains project schedules.

4. Establishes and maintains a high quality in submitted work.

5. Properly handles company data and property.

6. Practices proper business and professional ethics.

7. Conveys an acceptable corporate image.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Individual applies existing education, work skills, and previous software engineering experience to the development and support of software products in a development and supervisory role. Specific duties include:

1. Generation and evaluation of functional and design specifications.

2. Generation of project schedules pertaining to assigned and related projects.

3. Design and implementation of software systems and components.

4. Coordinating testing of software systems prior to release to other groups.

5. Submittal of software systems to quality assurance groups and subsequent follow-up.

6. Support of software and system components.

7. Coordination of additional duties related to the software development environment as necessary.

8. Act as a resource to other software engineers.

9. Supervision of other individuals as assigned.

10. Generation of and input into performance reviews of supervised individuals as required.

11. Updating skills to remain current with existing and new technologies.

12. Administrative duties as necessary including tracking schedules of other engineers as required, reporting hours worked, coordination of project status reports, generation of project schedules, and related.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Maintain a productive work environment.

2. Set-up and maintain personal workstation and other tools as required.

3. Obtain appropriate training to maintain skill level.

4. Provide on-site (customer and local) support for products as required.

5. Understand all process levels with varying capabilities to lead the byproducts of those processes.

6. Identify and recommend improvements in system development processes.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Bachelor Degree or above, in Mechanical & Electrical Integration, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.

5 to 8 years work experience.

Experience in the following areas:

1. Programming experience with:

a) Multithreaded design

b) Real-time operating system environment

c) C++/OO design required

d) C#/Python a plus

2. wledge of UML code generation tools such as IBM Rhapsody a plus

3. General or working knowledge in:

a) Software and systems development practices.

b) Complicated algorithm design/improvement ability.

c) Computer system hardware and architecture.

d) Real-time methodologies.

e) Embedded system development experiences.

4. Board layout principles and overall hardware disciplines

5. Object oriented design

6. Software system component integration

7. Global teamwork
