JOB FUNCTION:
Provides focused leadership of identified members of engineering operations teams within a
Lean Sigma organization at the direction of, and in support of the Engineering Manager.
Implements operating plans under the guidance of the Engineering Manager to achieve
corporate objectives and ensure customer satisfaction.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
*1. Implements and executes capacity and capability strategies under the guidance of the
Engineering Manager. Shares operational, customer and market intelligence with the
Engineering Manager. Fosters and ensures effective workflow. Typically supports local
members of a team, but may be required to travel.
*2. Manages the performance of identified team members. Develops and coaches them, by
providing career counseling, feedback and guidance. Ensures understanding of and
compliance with all established policies and requirements. Responsible for keeping
Engineering Manager informed about employee development, performance and morale.
*3. Communicates with customers to discuss technical and process issues and results and
explains UL family of companies’ policies, procedures and requirements, negotiates
completion dates and sample requirements, and ensures an effective experience with the
UL family of companies.
*4. Establishes appropriate test programs by reviewing files and manufacturer’s information,
examining samples, and applying requirements. Determines compliance with
requirements, any changes in project scope or specifications, and notifies customer.
*5. Provides technical guidance to both team and customer for complex engineering issues.
Ensures quality and adherence to policies and standard requirements.
*6. Promotes a Lean learning environment. Identifies, supports and integrates Lean Sigma
continuous improvement opportunities into all aspects of the job and throughout the
organization. Leads employees to openly suggest, promote and embrace change.
*7. Increases customer loyalty, anticipates customer needs and provides proactive solutions.
Gathers, shares and responds to customer feedback. Coaches and mentors staff to do
the same.
*8. Communicates and exemplifies UL’s Vision and Mission. Collaborates and builds trust
within the organization and with customers to meet or exceed their expectations.
Develops strong, flexible cross-functional networks and global relationships to promote
becoming the fastest, highest quality and most customer-friendly organization. Coaches
and mentors staff to do the same.

9. Performs other duties as directed.

HIRE-IN
University degree (equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree) in Business Administration,
Management, Engineering or related field plus generally five years directly related
experience.
Lean Sigma Green Belt or Lean Leadership Training, Gage R&R experience or
equivalent preferred.
Demonstrates knowledge of how decisions impact business results, working with a
diverse team and planning and thinking strategically.

Demonstrates the ability to manage employee performance using performance
expectations and goals, and responding to employee relations issues.
Demonstrates the ability to lead in a Lean Sigma organization.
Demonstrates the ability to make the complex simple and present information in a
concise, relevant and powerful manner.

Demonstrates the ability to analyze and interpret analyses, data, process documents
and plans.
Demonstrates the ability to take calculated risks and plan for contingencies.
Demonstrates the ability to listen, learn and teach.
Demonstrates awareness of the challenges of working in diverse cultural environments.
Demonstrates proficiency in local language and basic English.
Demonstrates customer collaboration, project management and business acumen skills.
