Overview and Role Description:
Business development is a key function in the Division go-to-market team, whose primary responsibility is to drive business growth through new service development and enhancing existing services. Using market insights gained from extensive time with clients and industry activities, the Business Development Manager (BDM) leads new offering pipeline development, using Stage Gate principles, which is accomplished through the development and execution of compelling business plans that both meet business growth objectives and also help our customers win. The BDM is personally accountable for the achievement of revenue growth targets from new services, and is expected to work closely with sales, marketing, operations and clients on the execution of established business plans, including direct selling to clients during the development phase.
BDMs must respond effectively to client feedback, industry trends and technology changes, and establish & sustain differentiated new services that meet client needs, enhance loyalty and drive business growth.
BDM goals – China
Lead regional development of targeted new service solutions that support divisional & regional financial commitments in 2014 and beyond. Use stage Gate principles to manage risk and secure support for capital investment. Specifically, the Business Development Manager will be required to:
- Work closely with sales team to drive expansion of UL certification program to new regions in China. He/ She may be required to develop sales/ marketing collateral and webinars to promote the service locally.
- Expand automotive testing services with client in region – develop key relationships with clients and leverage subcontract partnership to understand needs of the market and to determine needed UL investment to drive growth.
- Develop & execute business plan and go-to-market tactics for validation and recognition services to plastic additive industry. Determine if the service concept can be leveraged outside of China for added growth beyond 2014.
- Support launch of UL Insulation System lab in Suzhou and work closely with sales to expand recognition of UL as a capable provider within the industry.
- Build on Q4 2013 launch of new services to exceed 2014 regional revenue commitments in following:
- Index testing expansion
- Recycled plastics
- Halogen free program
Job Requirements:
- University Degree (Equivalent to Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree) in Business Administration, Marketing or a related discipline
- Five or more years’ experience in corporate account management, Marketing and/or Sales
- Detailed understanding of the applicable industry product lines and target markets
- Senior experience in the Chemicals Industry working with an international customer base handling large accounts in an environment where understanding and adapting to customer needs is preferred.
- Analytical, decision making and persuasion skills with the ability to lead virtual global, cross-functional teams effectively to meet program / service development launch goals
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate, ability to sell “at the highest level” with a compelling value-add strategy approach
