Responsible for designing, developing, and implementing processes and strategies governing the selection, approval, substitution and ongoing status of components used in Avaya designs. Ensures that Avaya products use the "right" components, components are selected early in the product realization process, and qualified throughout the design lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

- Identifies opportunities for redesign or component substitution to provide cost reduction, and common use of components/manufacturers across Avaya's platforms.
- Leads the component qualification process to approve use of new components and/or manufacturers.
- Ensures preferred manufacturers / components are selected during new product development.
- Works with both the Product Development team(s) and New Product Introduction (NPI) team to create advanced sourcing visibility to high risk Bill of Materials.
- Performs Bill-of-Material (BOM) risk assessments, evaluates risk against a set of measurable criteria at designated product realization gates. Maintains Avaya's approved vendor lists (AVL).
- Key driver in solving complex component performance and component life cycle issues.
- Reviews and resolves component related issues with component vendors and Electronic Manufacturing Service (EMS) providers.
- Interacts with manufacturers and uses Avaya product data management systems to further validate environmental compliance of components, manages and corresponds with manufacturers to retrieve material composition data. Supports all required regulatory objectives; including the Restriction of Hazardous (RoHS) Substances.
- Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.


Requirements:
? 5+ years experience working in Component Engineering
? B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, advanced degree highly desired
? Strong technical knowledge of mechanical components including: cables, connectors, enclosures, printed wiring boards, metals, keypads, plastics, hardware and fasteners
? Experience and a background in plastics and molding a plus
? Current knowledge of the component supply base
? Assembly manufacturing experience
? Component failure analysis experience
? Complete understanding/working knowledge of engineering documentation (i.e. schematics, component data sheets, gerber files, specs) and standard document control practices (ECR's, ECO's, deviations)
? Experience with MCAD tools and drawings
? Experience in Agile or working knowledge of other PDM/PLM application a plus
? Superior influencing and communication skills required
? Ability to manage/lead and work effectively in a complex, global organization
? Outstanding people skills, with the specific ability to interact as a lead player
? Strong analytical problem solving skills
? Strong decision making skills
? Exceptional multi-tasking ability and high energy required
