Location: Sarnia Manufacturing Centre, Ontario, Canada

Responsibilities:

The Senior Instrument Engineer provides run and maintain instrumentation support as well as the following:

Provides conceptual and detail design, execution, and startup support on projects.
Provides technical support and assurance for instrument applications, problems, and maintenance for all departments at the site.
Provides leadership for IPF gap closure against Downstream Standard and tactic development, progression.
Provides Subject Matter expertise for implementation and interpretation of company and industry instrumentation standards.
Approves Location Specifications and approves deviation from codes and standards.
Health/Safety/Environmental:

Understand and implement corporate Instrument Engineering activities per the Instrumented Protective Function (IPF) work process.
Provide technical assurance for the management of instrumentation, IPFs, control valves for the site.
Ensure all activities are conducted and managed in accordance with agreed Health, Safety and Environment practices and procedures.
Technical Assurance:

Monitor IPF test results and recommend changes to improve integrity, reliability.
Identify new technologies and best practices for instrument applications.
Expert for specialized instrumentation technologies; Able to guide and advise others in operational / technical aspects of instrumentation.
Able to creatively solve significant, complex, non routine problems.
Able to evaluate the implications of long term commercial/technical trends.
Monitor performance trends to identify potential reliability issues and bad actors that impact Production.
Provide technical and quality control review of all impacts to Instrumentation associated with maintenance, repairs, and plant changes implemented in the Production Module.
Provide technical support to Instrument Inspectors, CSEs, and I/E for run and maintain activities and turnaround planning (recommend, review and implement proposed solutions).
Possess instrument sizing computer skills (orifice, wet leg, and valve sizing calculations).
Fundamental knowledge of instrumentation systems, procedures and regulations- (DCS, PLC, Analyzer... etc).
Develop long term improvement plans using best available technologies.
Provide support for GAME work processes: Instrumented Protective Function (IPF), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Ensure Safe Production (ESP), Turnarounds (T/A) and Management of Change (MOC).
Approve Management of Change for instrumentation.
Participate in incident investigations.
Conduct instrument technology application feasibility analyses and new instrument technology prototype tests (from P&T, Vendors, etc).
Participate in Project Reviews including IPF SIFPro studies, revalidations.
Work closely with the Maintenance Excellence organization to identify problems and implement solutions to ongoing Instrument maintenance problems.
Review ongoing tracking of instrument maintenance history.

Requirements:

Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full time basis for anyone other than their current employer.
This individual may be responsible for day-to-day troubleshooting, routine instrumentation support for projects, routine monitoring of equipment performance and reliability, and mentoring of discipline support staff.
10+ years of experience in Instrumentation field support with heavy emphasis on instrumentation technology process automation, instrumentation experience and knowledgeable on the basic control systems hardware.
Minimum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing plant environment.
BS/MS in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated knowledge of practical work experience with Honeywell TDC, Foxboro DCS, Ge-Fanuc and Modicon PLCs.
Experience in a manufacturing or technical support environment in manufacturing complex.
Experience in project scope development, support and/or management.
Knowledge of safety reviews (PHA, HEMP-LOPA, etc.) with participation a plus.
Knowledge of corporate policies and industry standards.
Demonstrated analytical and decision making skills.
Ability to cope with a variety of issues and situations.
Able to work with diverse groups.
Good communication skills (Oral/Written).
Must a Professional Engineer with PEO (Professional Engineer Ontario) or eligible to register.
