Job Description
This position is for a technical writing and editing function in Freescale Semiconductor, Inc., Shanghai, China, supporting design, systems, applications, and software engineers with technical documentation deliverables describing the functionality and usage of software and tools products for external audience.
Department Description
The Microcontroller Products Group documentation team is responsible for documenting the functionality of microcontroller and microprocessor devices, including the Kinetis and i.MX product families, and associated hardware and software enablement.
Responsibilities
? Write and edit technical information for company products and generate internal and end-user documentation, such as software reference manuals, user guides, release notes, and application notes.
? Gather and organize technical information, edit documents for grammar, language, and style conventions (adhering to group style guide) and coordinate layout for PDF or HTML publication.
? Assist engineering writers in preparing highly technical documentation for publication
? Receive, analyze, and manage customer defect tickets, and revise documents based on customer inputs
? Work to standardized processes and workflows in cross-functional team environment
? Work in compliance with corporate process and identity standards
? General and detailed publication duties (proofreading, paginating, spell checking, and resolving cross-references for small, medium, and very large documents)
? Use content management system for archive/retrieval of collateral
? Serve as customer advocate on internal process/technical issues
? Manage relationships with global team
Required Qualifications
o Degree in a technical discipline preferred; minimum BA or BS in English or similar communication arts plus 5+ years experience in the technical communication field.
o Excellent command of the English language and strong written communication skills
o Ability to communicate and work with developers and editors
o Ability to apply established templates and standards
o Availability for off-hour calls with remote sites
o Strong organizational skills
o Ability to work independently and with nominal supervision
o Strong understanding of DITA/XML fundamentals, structured writing, single sourcing principles
o Experience in using desktop publishing tools, such as FrameMaker, Microsoft Word, XML editors (ArborText, Serna, oXygen), and graphics tools (Inkscape, Visio), a must.
Knowledge/skills include some or all of the following
o Basic understanding of hardware systems and software design patterns
o Familiarity with Linux, Android, or other embedded operating systems
o Familiarity with HTML mark-up and Infocenter presentation
Desired Qualifications
o Semiconductor industry experience, both hardware and software
o Advanced FrameMaker book techniques; FrameMaker template design.
o Advanced graphics creation and editing expertise
