Category Specialist in Retail Equip and Marketing Services
Role Synopsis:
– Dimensions
? Report directly to the Sr. Category Manager for Retail Equipment and Marketing Services.
? The category specialist role is responsible for understanding the Asia market for Retail Equip and Marketing Services commodities.
? The geographic requirement is to understand suppliers and markets in India, Vietnam, South Korea, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Bangladesh and other emerging markets in the Asia region.
? The category specialist will work globally with stakeholders for the Retail Equip and Marketing Services commodities to understand the purchase demand, the specification requirements and be able to analyze this information to determine and, if available, recommend the best supply options for Asia
? The category specialist will be expected to participate in global category councils and networks to input Asia market and supply considerations and to successfully influence the groups/teams to properly include those considerations into the strategies they are leading
? It is expected that the category specialist will have the ability to influence addressable annual spend of USD 25Mn +
– Role
? The role will report directly to the Sr. Category Manager for Retail Equip and Marketing Services for assigned sourcing activities.
? This role will ensure business requirements are well understood and fulfilled.
? The role will also be responsible for the Asia supply market insights and intelligence for Retail Equip and Marketing Services categories
? The role is accountable to the Sr. Category Manager for Retail Equipment and Marketing Services to develop category strategy for sourcing from Asia.
? The role is also responsible to influence the global or regional category strategies for Retail Equip and Marketing Services based on Asian market knowledge and supply capability.
? Participate as member of the sourcing team with Market Sector/site personnel and requestor to identify potential Asia emerging market opportunities, recommend appropriate suppliers and follow through on outcomes of the sourcing process.
? Ensure all business requirements are fulfilled and that available value from sourcing or influencing of sourcing outcomes is achieved.
– Key Challenges
? Grow deep knowledge of Retail Equip and Marketing Services product categories and Asia supply market;
? Work internationally with people of different languages and cultures to influence their acceptance of emerging market sourcing opportunities;
? Help to grow the Asia emerging market sourcing awareness through proactively identifying sourcing opportunities and potential new suppliers;
? Working closely with QA/AC to ensure supplier quality & performance and fully meet COMPANY’s requirements;
? Ensuring operational effectiveness and engagement by complying with updated common process with PSCM Asia interfaces.
Key Accountabilities:
? With PSCM Asia category manager, MSS or site PSCM, the role will help establish vision and strategic direction for Retail equip and Marketing Services categories, bring forward strategy consideration related to Asia emerging markets.
? Develop a clear understanding of business demand and requirements that are applicable for emerging market sourcing within Retail Equip and Marketing Services categories
? Build relationships with PSCM MSS and site personnel and business and technical stakeholders to build awareness of the potential value from Asia supply, learn of opportunities to apply emerging market sourcing and align when and how to pursue opportunities
? Proactively identify and, as appropriate, pre-qualify Asia suppliers to be available to compete for COMPANY business in Retail Equip and Marketing Services categories
? Participate and lead supplier performance management to measure and constantly seek to improve COMPANY and supplier performance
? Deliver value cost savings targets for Retail Equip and Marketing Services categories
? Contribute to the development of category strategies, plans and priorities, and identifying opportunities to leverage value or mitigate risk from changes in markets
? Where requested, implement sourcing initiatives that ensure delivery of business plans and category strategies.
? Work closely with the relevant PSCM & business team and provide support at request.
? Effectively utilize available standard Procurement tools and processes developed by PSCM Shared Service Offer & Strategy Team
? Be a key member of category team that performs commodity strategy, sourcing, supplier negotiations and for those orders placed into the Asia Region, part of the supplier performance management process
? Build and maintain profiles of supply market and key suppliers
? Actively track the supply market to take advantages of prevailing opportunities
? Proactively explores the wider supply and industry markets to identify opportunities that COMPANY can leverage for benefit delivery or to mitigate a supply risk e.g. technology developments, acquisition impacts
? Identify, implement and realize value through effective ''strategic cost management'' utilizing best in class methods and tools
? Undertake due diligence in mitigating external supply risk from supplier selection through to contract execution
? Participate in Supplier Performance Management reviews for Retail Equip and Marketing Services commodities
? Aggregate demand across user groups
? Capture, share and apply lessons learned and best practices
? Support site technical teams in the development of clear specifications, ITPs and statements of work that will maximize market opportunity and reduce risk
? Measure influenced spend and value delivered from PSCM Asia
? Provide information and counsel on to peers and leadership as to market trends, cost drivers and cost control strategies, risk mitigation strategies
? Responsible to deliver value targets contained in annual MyPlan
? Authority to execute contracts and make commitments within Delegation of Authority
? Responsible for supplier communications & follow-up to screen suppliers
? Responsible for development and maintenance of supplier profiles for qualified suppliers
? Supplier communications & follow up to ensure timely response to the COMPANY RFx/tender or e-auction requirements
? Visit supplier facilities as part of pre-qualification where appropriate.
? Update market intelligence data and monitor supply market dynamics
? Support Sr. Category Manager/Supplier Development Manager in the development and implementation of formal supplier development programs
? Capture, document and address stakeholder complaints about supplier quality
? Capture, document and escalate, where appropriate, to PSCM Asia leadership stakeholder feedback about PSCM Asia performance
? Supports and enable a high performing team
? Participates in company networks, sharing information, best practices and lessons learned.
Essential Experience and Job Requirements:
? 5 years experience in Procurement in Retail industry, Oil and Gas industry experience preferred;
? Experience of working in multinational companies with people from different countries and cultures;
? Good English language skills (both speaking and writing);
? Fluent in both English & Mandarin;
? Bachelor degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, technical degree;
? Preferred to have had previous role performing category management with international scope;
? Good analytical & market research skills;
? Pro-active self-starter, capable of working with limited supervision;
? Good communication & engagement skills;
? Good negotiation skills;
? Committed team player;
? High personal integrity and ethical standards;
? Strong performance bias;
? Basic knowledge of economics;
? Basic knowledge of international trade.
