STCA is now focusing on the following areas: the continuous exploration of Bing search technology; the technical innovation of online advertisement services; the development of the MSN social platform; and the development of mobile search applications. Today, STCA has hundreds of excellent employees and is the largest R&D team of the Microsoft Online Service Division outside the United States.

Roles & Responsibilities
Online Advertising is one of the fastest growing businesses on the Internet today, with $40 billion of a $600 billion advertising market already online. Microsoft is innovating rapidly to grow its share of this market by providing the advertising industry with a world-class online advertising platform and service. The Microsoft Ads Research & Development team is one of the most strategic and growing teams at Microsoft.
We are part of the Revenue and Relevance team, the Paid Search monetization branch. Our goal is to land OSD's FY13 Revenue-per-Search goals while maintaining a healthy marketplace: balancing Revenue and Relevance. We are responsible for creating healthy and profitable auctions for our users, our advertisers, and our publishers (including Bing and Yahoo).
The ideal candidate should have a strong technical background, and good grasp of software engineering principles, exceptional problem solving and design skills, and have a curiosity and tenacious approach to improving the product performance. Exceptional drive, self-motivation, bias toward action, interpersonal communication skills, ability to influence others and work well in a team environment are all very important. To be successful in this role, you must have strong core program management skills - understanding the online advertisement industry and internet user/advertiser behavior, interested in deepening domain expertise, being data driven, analytical and detailed-oriented, having a proven track record of effectively leading small teams to deliver software products, and be fluent in oral and written communication in English.
Qualifications:
- Exceptional project management and driving skills, effectively connecting and managing multiple facets
- Great attention to detail and a hard-core focus on shipping high impact features with smooth execution.
- Solid critical thinking and data driven approach to decision-making
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Familiarity with the software product cycle, driving features from initial planning, design, to implementation and release
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a significant number of internal groups and external partners, driving agreement and “win win” opportunities
- Ability to tackle and shred problems using solid data analysis techniques to analyze options and support conclusions
- Understanding of machine learning techniques and auction theory are a plus
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science/Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline is highly preferred
Experience:
- 5+ years of data-driven problem solving capabilities in a technical role, especially as a Product/Program Manager
- 1-2 years of prior experience managing a technical or analytical team in Computer Science/Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline is preferred
- Familiarity with data analysis tools and basic statistical knowledge
- Prior experience in online advertising, particularly search, is highly valued.
- This position is located in Beijing, China.
