Responsibilities:

DuPont is currently recruiting for an experienced Principal Investigator (Melt Fiber Spinning Expert) for the Industrial BioSciences-Sorona® Business at the China Technical Center in Shanghai, China. The IB-Sorona® business is currently developing a number of products and applications using the Sorona® PTT polymer. The technical team is engaged in direct customer interactions, technical service/problem solving and research & development on both new and existing applications. There is a new opportunity in the technical organization targeted to apparel/textile/carpet applications with fiber spinning expertise being required in each of these respective end uses. This position requires a scientist or engineer who can work with the existing team to develop new technology capabilities and to solve problems with existing products serving global customers.
? The successful incumbent will come to the position having knowledge and experience in melt spinning fibers and advance their knowledge further by learning from the DuPont personnel how to spin successfully Sorona® fiber from polymer; additionally, the successful incumbent will come with knowledge and experience in how to texture and dye (color) polymeric materials. The intent is to be able to help customers to develop products using Sorona® PTT with their systems and equipment.
? The individual in this position will be a guardian for spinning of Sorona® fiber in China and the Asia Pacific region and will also work to help the customer with operations downstream to spinning
? Specifically, this individual will be involved in assessing the impact of modifications of the Sorona® polymer, in spinning fiber at internal and external facilities, and in working at the customers’ facilities to develop process and product capabilities. Additionally, efforts could include helping develop dye packages to dye fiber/polymer effectively and help customers develop apparel, carpet or textile offerings.
? The individual should have experience in direct customer interactions and the ability to work with various companies within the supply chain to resolve issues that might arise in their use of the Sorona® polymer. Regular travel to various customer and partner sites is expected.

Qualifications:

? A Ph.D. degree or the educational equivalent in a scientific or engineering field.
? At least 5 years of Industrial experience. (preferred)
? Direct knowledge of melt based fiber spinning of thermoplastic polymersKnowledge of polymer materials and polymer processing.
? Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
? Strong writing and communication skills; ability to speak and write in English.
? Experienced with effectively interfacing with customers in both a one-on-one setting as well as presentations to larger groups.
? Ability to be effective in a rapidly growing, dynamic & often changing business environment.
? Knowledge of dyes and dye systems and texturing methods used with textile fibers (nylon, PET or PPT).
? Understanding of how carpets & how apparel fabrics are made.
? Overall understanding of different fiber processes and downstream conversion into final end uses.
