Department: Global Engineering, Global Automotive Audio SBU

Location: Suzhou Product Development Center, Jiangsu Province

Reports To: Director, Product Development & Site Leader

Supervisory Responsibilities: 18 staff, direct the activities of mechanical design engineers in a facility size of approximately 150 employees

Harman’s Audio SBU is the global leader in the design and manufacture of OEM Branded Audio systems. The group maintains headquarters in Farmington Hills, Michigan with Product Development Centers in Germany, US and China. Regional Engineering Centers are maintained in close geographical proximity to our primary customers on each continent. The Audio SBU develops branded audio system solutions; amplifiers and speakers, noise management product such as ANC EOC/RNC and ESS, and components for use in unbranded or alternatively branded systems. Core competencies include transducer and amplifier design and manufacturing, DSP audio algorithms, system integration, system voicing techniques and subjective/objective benchmarking. Program execution and product quality are another strong focus for the Audio SBU.


Responsibilities:
1. Develop advanced product designs in cooperation with the appropriate engineering disciplines and technicians according to customer and federal regulations and specifications.
2. Use CATIA Version 5 (Revision 2 or higher) CAD software at a highly skilled level to develop product concepts and designs of Harman International speaker assemblies and components. Create 3D models, assembly drawings and component drawings of product designs.
3. Create tolerance stack-up analysis on a speaker assembly’s components and its vehicle mounting interface.
4. Analyze a speaker assembly and its subcomponents with consideration to:
a. Customer requirements and supplier capabilities.
b. Cost and timing to ensure manufacturability, efficiency and quality.
5. Utilize software tools such as FEA and mold flow analysis to confirm design integrity
6. Uses analysis techniques such as the DFMEA and/or DRBRM to identify and assess design and manufacturing risks. Develops plans to validate the robustness of product designs.
7. Stay current on innovative manufacturing processes to facilitate optimal product design using DFA and/or Design for Assembly & Manufacturing methodology.
8. Investigate and analyze appropriate data to verify intent and compliance of design to customer and government specifications and requirements.

Qualifications:
1. BSME, BSMET or related degree, Advanced degree, e.g. MSME, MSMET or MBA preferred.
2. 4-6 Years experience in OEM automotive product design and vehicle development process for OEMs such as BMW, Chrysler, Ford, Hyundai or Toyota.
3. Experience in the design and engineering of injection-molded plastic and stamped sheet metal components
4. CATIA V5 CAD design skills; CAD tools, especially Unigraphics and ProEngineer
5. Experience using DFMEA and/or DRBFM analytical tools, PLM tools, especially ProductCenter or TeamCenter, ANSYS or MoldFlow.
6. Proper drafting, dimensioning and tolerancing techniques, including GD&T.
7. Knowledge of the APQP process

Position Requirements:
1. Willingness to travel 10% of the time to US or Germany for training.
2. Travel occasionally to other Harman sites as well as customer and supplier facilities, as necessary.
