Position Summary:

Provide Supplier Development leadership and support to Global Commodity Management, Plant Supplier Quality, Program Management, and the Turbo global supply base.

In support of new product launches the Global Supplier Development Engineer is responsible for identifying and developing new suppliers in support of Turbo Systems strategies. The Global Supplier Development Engineer will be assigned specific commodities or a region and will be responsible for ensuring that the BorgWarner Supplier Quality requirements are understood and being achieved by all new and current suppliers in the pursuit of flawless launches.

In support of operational excellence, the Global Supplier Development Engineer is responsible for providing leadership in mentoring and developing supplier partners to world-class quality (zero defects in production). Responsible for overseeing major supplier quality issues of global suppliers and assist Turbo Systems manufacturing operations in problem resolution when requested. Support Turbo Systems Supply Chain sourcing initiatives of reducing supply base cost and ensuring sufficient global capacity.

Conduct benchmarking to identify and implement best practices for Supplier Quality and Supplier Development.

This position involves business travel up to 75% of the time. Jobs currently located at Kirchheimbolanden, Germany; Bradford, United Kingdom; Asheville, US; Shanghai China; Ningbo China; Oroszlany Hungary; Pyongtaek South Korea; Ramos Mexico or Chennai India.

Position Accountabilities:

1.Attend and contribute to Commodity meetings and support the Global Commodity Buyers in the development and release of new global suppliers to BorgWarner according to the Commodity Strategy.

2.Conduct on-site Quality System Assessment (quality systems, part and process verifications) for new processes at existing suppliers or new suppliers to BorgWarner.

3.Approve / not approve plant sourcing decisions based on supplier quality operating system assessment, supplier quality performance, and the supplier's ability to make the part.

4.Provide assistance to suppliers in achieving BorgWarner supplier requirements as stated in the BorgWarner Supplier Quality Manual and Quality Agreements.

5.Conduct APQP / Technical Reviews with new suppliers or existing suppliers with new processes (covering Critical Characteristics, FMEA, Control Plan, Early Production Containment, etc.) prior to PPAP submission and release. Utilize e-APQP to manage APQP with the supplier.

6.Conduct "We are Ready and Run at Rate" Assessment at suppliers in order to verify production readiness.

7.Support Turbo Manufacturing locations in the management of the consolidated BU Supplier Performance Rating (Supplier Scorecard).

8.Provide assistance to BorgWarner manufacturing plants and interface with Plant Quality Organization with respect to significant or chronic supplier quality issues.

9.Support Supply Chain Management Supplier Improvement Initiatives by utilizing the BorgWarner common supplier quality improvement processes (3rd party controlled shipping, process audits, problem resolution (8D), pass through characteristic reviews, Supplier Conferences, etc.).

10.Support BorgWarner and Turbo Systems Supplier Quality Policies & Procedures through fully adhering to and training our suppliers and our internal organizations (e.g. Supplier Manual, Supplier Scorecard, etc.).

11.Provide information and suggestions to the Quality Organization, enabling continuous systematic improvement on the Supplier Development Process and related tools.

12.Assist the Turbo Systems manufacturing operations in Supplier performance improvement (reduction in PPM and Incidents) for Global Suppliers. Participate and support plants on the "Top Worst Supplier" meetings.

13.New Technology: In conjunction with Turbo Systems Engineering and Commodity Management and Advanced Purchasing, identify and develop new and emerging technologies for use in Turbo Systems products.

14.Facilitate the development, sharing, and implementation of "Best Practice" methods and ideas across BorgWarner and the Supply Base.

Required Education/Experience:

- Engineering or Technical degree.

- Minimum 5 years of work experience preferred in automotive or automotive supplier industry in field of Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Supplier Quality Engineering.

- Demonstrated experience in a technical area (electrical, casting, machining, stamping, etc.).

- Demonstrated experience in problem-solving, including being able to identify, investigate and resolve supplier technical and/or quality issues.

- Demonstrated experience in APQP management of suppliers for new program launches.

- Demonstrated experience in capacity verification of specific parts and general capacity with suppliers.

- Demonstrated experience in auditing supplier quality operating systems utilizing VDA 6.3, TS 16949, or similar quality systems.

- Demonstrated experience in the development / improvement of a supplier's quality system or technical ability.

- Possess the ability to be self-directed and simultaneously manage multiple projects and objectives.

- Outstanding team building skills are necessary, as the position will be required to work with suppliers, product development, plant manufacturing, and purchasing to ensure the Turbo Systems Supply Chain deliverables are met.

- Solid interpersonal communication skills are needed to be able to communicate to all levels of BorgWarner and Supplier organizations.

- Strong background in manufacturing processes is required.

- Fluent English.

- Six Sigma green or black belt (preferred).

- Excellent blueprint reading and interpretation skills.

- Experience with Turbocharger components a plus.
