Position description

1. Perform all manual and automated testing in accordance with SOPs
2. Interpret, correlate and release laboratory test results
3. Evaluate specimen acceptability upon receipt and during the review of analysis results.
4. Identify problems, develop appropriate action plans to solve problems; when necessary, refer problems to the appropriate resource person
5. Perform both internal and external proficiency testing
6. Perform testing and quality control procedures as per lab quality assurance guidelines
7. Conduct and record instrument maintenance as per SOPs
8. Ensure appropriate handling and inventory levels of laboratory supplies
9. Responsible for keeping informed and complying with all safety regulations as it relates to the laboratory environment
10. Participate in client and regulatory audits of the laboratory
11. Assist in review of SOP's and prepare new SOPs
12. Cooperate with project leader and coordinator on projects Meetings/in-service education

Position Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree or educational equivalent in medical technology and 6 months relevant experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
2. Good knowledge of the clinical procedures used in the area of responsibility
3. Knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures and practices including standard precautions and hazardous chemical handling
4. Knowledge of laboratory equipment, instrumentation and terminology used in the area of responsibility
5. Basic computer skills
6. Ability to maintain effective reporting procedures and control workflow
7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers and clients
