The Team:
Business Intelligence Engineering (BIE) is a dynamic organization that delivers credible data to help Microsoft’s internal business partners and employees gain powerful insights across the various LOBs (Sales, Finance, HR, Legal, etc.) from its Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) platform. The ability to make faster, better decisions via efficient and reliable management information systems is vital in driving targeted business outcomes. BIE is responsible for building the business analytics and reporting systems/tools that our internal business partners/employees use to arrive at these decisions and support these outcomes.
We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated and results-driven SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) proficient in testing, validating end-to-end scenarios across various integrated systems spanning a wide range of technologies and shipping high-quality enterprise-level solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong analytical disposition, critical thinking/problem-solving skills, sound judgment and attention to detail, a passion for quality and a focus on providing business insights of value to our internal partners/customers.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Collaboration with upstream SD team and downstream IT teams to design and develop high quality, high performance, innovative BI solutions for Microsoft business units
Ownership of the design and test development of BI solutions and the integration with Microsoft BI technologies, including SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Analysis Services (SSAS), Reporting Services (SSRS), PowerPivot, Power View, xVelocity, Azure, SharePoint and Excel
Testing of multiple project releases simultaneously, raising issues, exploring and communicating resolutions, and following up with results
Writing comprehensive test plans and test cases, developing robust automated test cases and tools, and continually incorporating better engineering practices
Implementing software automation testing and identifying opportunities for integration automation through existing / innovative test tooling / infrastructure
Ensuring quality, reusability, sustainability, security, scalability and reliability of our platform, components, tools, test libraries by making the right design considerations and assessments
Streamlining deployments from test to production environments and innovating in this space
Articulating the state of product quality through the use of effective, useful project metrics to measure quality and performance and help the project team gain test efficiencies
Partnering closely with solution/program management, development, release and operations teams to incorporate best practices, drive engineering excellence, and bring new test methodologies to the team
Provide test expertise and manage vendor test resources utilized for executing on our “Test-as-a-Service” (TaaS) strategy
Compliance with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes and controls
Pro-active team player who can deliver results according to plans while working effectively across global teams
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of software automation testing, BI/DW development/solution implementation/test experience
- Strong design, coding, testing, debugging skills in C# or other object-oriented/web technologies/languages
- Demonstrated proficiency in test case design/scripting, test planning, application testing, systems configuration, implementation, performance optimization, and trouble shooting on various technologies and/or platforms, eg. ETL, ERP
- Proven experience in database design, data modeling, SQL and common DW principles
- Expertise in Microsoft BI stack: SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, PowerPivot, Power View, xVelocity, Azure, SharePoint, Excel Services, PerformancePoint Server, MDX queries and experience working with large data sets
Deep insight in business processes and functional modules including prior experience working with balanced scorecards, dashboards and KPIs/metrics preferred
- Ability to accurately estimate work, deliver builds on time and ship releases on schedule
- Love for problem solving, analytical challenges in the data management area and a good understanding of end-user behavior
- Passion for innovation around improving the effectiveness and efficiency of testing large scale data warehouses and services is a must
- Detail oriented, with ability to produce high quality analytical reports and specifications
- Ability to simplify complicated issues, formulate clear recommendations and technical horsepower are required
- Experience with Performance/Load/Scalability/Reliability Testing on services platform a strong plus
- Familiarity with Scenario Focused Engineering, SCRUM, agile development methodologies, internal MS automation tools including UI automation (MAUI, KAF, RPF, or Mita) is highly desirable
- Knowledge of/Experience in other DW technologies, specifically Informatica, preferred
- Knowledge of HTML5, SilverLight, SQLAzure is a plus
- Experience working on projects with geographically distributed teams is a bonus
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- A BA/BS degree in Computer Science, MIS or related technical field
