Role Summary/Purpose
GE is expanding its Global Patent Operation (GPO) to include an office in Shanghai, China. This will be co-located with the existing patent team that supports GE Corporate Technology Center (CTC). GPO’s mission is to partner with GE businesses to develop IP strategies that will add business value and also implement such defined strategies through the preparation and prosecution of high quality patent applications that provide the IP protection consistent with developed strategic IP plans.

Essential Responsibilities
GE has an open position for a Patent Agent based in Shanghai, China. The Agent will: Prepare, file, and prosecute Chinese priority and convention patent applications to issue, including preparing and filing responses to various types of Office Actions on existing Chinese patent applications Work with business inventors and attorneys to review office actions and make patent application filing decisions to maximize the scope of Chinese patent protection reflective of business’ strategic goals Conduct on-line patent searching and analysis Provide advice and counsel to GE businesses and within the GPO on a range of IP matters, particularly in connection with Chinese patent law and practice Occasionally mentor new Attorneys, Agents or Analysts in the GPO to develop their patent drafting skills, preparation in Office Action Responses, work-flow, planning and execution Participate and lead process focused teams to define process improvements within the GPO to increase overall productivity without sacrificing the quality of GE’s patents

Qualifications/Requirements
He/she shall be a registered patent agent in China. (USA patent registration is desired) He/She shall have obtained an advanced degree in mechanical engineering or physics and preferably with related technical experience The successful candidate shall have a minimum of three (3) years drafting and prosecuting convention and priority Chinese patent applications in a variety of electrical and mechanical technologies The preparation and prosecution experience shall be at a patent law firm, or equivalent experience in a company He/she shall have a demonstrated understanding and command of Chinese patent laws and regulations, Chinese Patent Office practices and procedures, and Patent Cooperation Treaty rules and practices The successful candidate must have significant experience working independently, with management, and with business teams to create global patent portfolios aligned with business strategic objectives and goals The successful candidate will have experience developing patent related internal processes. As reflected primarily through the successful candidate’s written work product he/she shall have a demonstrated ability to effectively read and write and speak in Mandarin and English (CET 6)
