Position: Advanced Technology and Research Organisation: Group Truck Technology, Advanced Technology & Research, China Location: Volvo Office, Pudong, Shanghai, P.R.China INTRODUCTION Within the Volvo Group Trucks Technology organization, Advance Technology and Research (ATR) is in charge of creating the Volvo Group technology plan and of maturing the technologies required by the Trucks Brands and the Business Areas to innovate in a profitable way with new products and services. Our focus is on commercial transport solutions, services, vehicles and machines for the Volvo Group including trucks, buses and construction equipment. Within ATR, Vehicle Technology and Safety (VT&S) mission is to steer technology strategy and planning, develop and deliver mature concepts, methods and tools in time for implementation in product projects in order to contribute to the development of Volvo Group toward its targeted leading position in sustainable transport solutions. Our scope of responsibility is: . Complete optimized vehicles part of safe, quiet, environmental friendly and energy efficient transport solutions . Driving assistance & active safety related technologies . Vehicle dynamics solutions toward automated vehicles . Optimized concepts for the driving, working and living environment with a specific focus on Human Machine Interface / User eXperience . Passive safety solutions to minimize the consequences of accidents when they can't be avoided . Load capacity and weight optimization for transport efficiency . Vehicle structures optimization including integration of new materials, noise, vibration and harshness . We develop and integrate technologies into vehicles to deliver robust concepts in time for implementation We strive for cross-functional cooperation within AB Volvo and with universities, suppliers and partners in order to broaden and develop our competence and boost creativity. CONTEXT ATR is expanding its organization in the area of Transport Solutions & Services and Vehicle Technologies & Safety in China. This Chinese part of ATR will be under the responsibility of the global ATR organization and will locally be connected to the legal entity of Volvo (China) Investment Corporation Ltd located in Shanghai. VT&S first objective with this expansion is on one hand to develop knowledge about China transportation industry, markets, needs, products, competition and on the other hand to understand technology and cooperation opportunities with universities, institutes, laboratories... VT&S will prepare and perform projects to develop knowledge and technologies in and from China. VT&S is looking for a first member to expand its team to China. RESPONSIBILITIES As member of the VT&S team your responsibility is to: . Create a VT&S network in China that will allow ATR understanding what technologies Volvo needs to develop in order to prepare products for China and that will allow running Research & Advanced Engineering projects. In good cooperation with Volvo Product Planning in China and with other Volvo entities, develop the knowledge of the VT&S team about: . Chinese transportation industry, markets, conditions, needs, vehicles, etc... . Regulations and standards in China . Competitor products and product evolution trends . Road and traffic conditions / usages . Truck segment in China . Feature expectations In good cooperation with the whole ATR team in China: . Develop knowledge about the technology base in China in the fields of VT&S . Develop knowledge of technology suppliers in the fields of VT&S . Develop VT&S cooperation with public authorities as needed . Develop VT&S cooperation with universities, research institutes, laboratories... . Make recommendations of technology strategies and roadmaps well-coordinated with technology needs for China and consistent with Volvo Group product plan. Evaluate the relevance of VT&S technology plans vs. Chinese needs. . When strategies and roadmaps are validated create research and technology development projects . Manage research and advanced engineering projects according to Volvo processes and organization . Protect Volvo intellectual property as needed. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES . PhD or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering: Transport Engineering or equivalent. . Proficient (written and verbal) in Chinese and English . Primarily engineering experience in the automotive industry, preferably good transportation . Deep interest, knowledge and competences in commercial goods transportation, logistics, fleet management, telematics and commercial automotive in general . Desire to focus on customer needs and to provide solutions through a systemic approach . Networking skills with ability to work in wide complex global networks . Pre-existing personal network in China (and in other Asian markets) is a merit . Initiative spirit and motivation to contribute to the growth of a new group and interest to grow cutting edge competences. . Willingness to undertake responsibilities. . Innovative skills and holistic view.
