I.Job Summary:
Serves as Technical Leader for routine analyses conducted within Nutritional Chemistry. Has overall responsibility for client interaction, the technical conduct of applicable functional groups within the department, validation procedures, and the interpretation, analysis, documentation, and reporting of results. This position is intended to develop study direction, project management, client management, and management skills.
A. Duties and Responsibilities:
· Coordinates efforts of multiple functional group(s)
· Acts as data approver for data generated by multiple functional groups
· Assure that final results reported are approved and in compliance with appropriate SOPs and regulatory agency guidelines.
· Evaluates data to assure regulatory guidelines and scientific expectations are met.
· Consults with staff to determine project requirements and to suggest/guide plans to accomplish these needs.
· Communicates pertinent questions or information to clients, client service staff, sample management, or study directors.
· May assist client services in managing client relationships.
· Monitors/evaluates/reviews the scientific performance of routine assays. Provides client services, clients, or study directors with progress reports as needed.
· Acts as lead chemist with new methods, method modifications or client specific procedures.
· Responsible for completing Out of Specification (OOS) reports, Covance Laboratory Investigation Reports (LIR's), or other.
· Discusses project or method issues with the area supervisor, and suggests solutions and actions.
· Initiates eNotes and responds to eQA audits as needed.
· Works with lab staff to implement client specific procedures, investigations, or validations.
· Participates in client visits.
· Monitors progress and status of projects. Ensures that all experimental data, including observations of unanticipated responses to the test system, are accurately recorded and verified.
· Provides relevant information to assure accuracy of forecast and revenue recognition, reviews cost estimates and financial information for accuracy
· Provides input on team performance to area supervisor.
· Co-authors scientific papers/posters which are published or presented at scientific meetings.
· On a broad basis, able to apply appropriate chemistry principles, theories, and concepts within the field of discipline. Applies a working knowledge of related disciplines.
· Acts as a backup to other technical leaders.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
II. Education/Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in science, preferably Master's or Ph.D in chemistry
Skilled in analytical chemistry field.
Knowledge of regulatory agency guidelines.
Proficiency in project management skills.
Ability to conduct review of related literature and references to obtain the required information and subsequently apply it.
Skilled in data interpretation and report writing.
Skilled in performing scientific presentations and preparing scientific publications.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to operate a personal computer, applicable software and/or data bases as necessary to maintain effectiveness and productivity.
