Job purpose:
Within the TPU business the job holder is responsible for application technology development and for the development of new and existing systems needed to capiture new business or economic opportunities, with particular emphasis on APac but which may be applicable for the other two regions. The job holder will convert broad development programmes, into detailed work plans and as necessary lead the introduction of the resulting systems at customer facilities. The job holder will also be responsible for assisting the operations team in troubleshooting involving processing and formulation modification to ensure robust and consistent manufacturing

Principal accountabilities:
? To ensure that all existing safety standards and procedures are fully met in accordance with existing policies and company objectives and to ensure that all experimental activities are carried out according to these standards. To maintain a safe working environment around him/her, both for his/her own security and that of his/her neighbours. The job holder is requested to assess all potential hazards and to communicate them to his supervisor and other team members to ensure that appropriate and adequate training on all safety aspects is received.
? To define and manage multiple development programmes to deliver improved technologies for existing applications, within an agreed time scale, propose potential new applications and value propositions for new materials. The job holder shall, in conjunction with the project teams define the actual application requirements as a basis for the design of experimental programs.
? To demonstrate the capability to innovate; to design novel solutions.
? To act as a cross-functional project leader using the guidelines of project management while providing the majority of the technical input and ensuring New Product Introduction procedures are followed.
? To effectively solve routine and mainly non-routine problems.
? To successfully independently complete projects with increased complexity
? To have an in-depth knowledge of TPU technology and the effect of the raw materials on the properties and the processing in order to independently be able to modify formulations and provide plant support. To identify and evaluate opportunities for reducing formulation costs through optimization and introduction of alternative raw materials
? To keep abreast of all TPU developments within the global TPU business and to communicate the novel technical ideas he generates to all his colleagues e.g. via presentations at team meetings and monthly reporting
? To ensure that all raw materials employed in the TPU product line are listed on the approved raw material list and those products are listed with the required regulatory agencies as needed.
? To communicate technical knowledge for business decision making with peers, supervisors and upper levels. Collaborate with the global team of Product Technology Scientists to share knowledge and increase the speed and effectiveness of development
? To acquire market intelligence wherever possible and communicate the acquired information to the Technology Manager and to relevant Personnel.
? To participate in technology transfer to other sites and regions, and provide technical support and training as required. To provide coaching and technical guidance to Personnel and to provide training to newcomers and customers as required.
? To carry out annual performance appraisals of subordinate team members and to identify training and development activities.


Special Features:
? Good communication team work and relationship building skills are essential as well internally as with customers at different levels in their organizations. The job holder will need to communicate well at all levels. The primary contacts are with the Global Technology group, CoreScience, QA and regional commercial teams.
? At the customer, handling confidential information is critical. In some cases instant decisions have to be taken by the jobholder independently.
? Flexibility and adaptability to reorganise the workload in accordance with changing priorities and to maximise the output of the team.
? To overcome barriers, the job holder will use internal as well as external resources.
? The job holder will have the responsibility and impact of a moderate area of focus.
? Occasional travel across Asia to visit customers and assist production start-up and trials.
? Supervision of 1 - 2 experimental technologist(s).


Knowledge, experience and skills required:
Training and Education
The preferred profile is a degree in chemistry or polymer science (or equivalent) with 5 - 8 yrs experience in TPU technology or manufacturing. In addition to Mandarin Chinese the job holder should have a good command of written and spoken English
