POSITION: Sr. Staff Geologist
LOCATION: Shenzhen, China
DEPARTMENT: Exploration & Exploitation Dept. (E&E Dept.)
REPORTS TO: E&E Manager
WORKING SCHDULE: 5days/8hours
DURATION: 1 year (with extension)

SUMMARY:
- This position represents a key technical position within the China Exploration Team. Primary responsibilities will include the various geological activities required to support activities within company’s existing exploration portfolio together with the identification & evaluation of new venture exploration and development opportunities. The incumbent will need to provide the main geological support for a small team of geophysicist & reservoir engineers working in China & will need to liaise with the Calgary office on geological matters. This will include: play & prospect generation, geological mapping, providing recommendations for drilling locations, evaluation of drilling results, together with assessments of original in-place hydrocarbons and the provision of geological support & reporting as required. Initial activities will be focused towards company’s shallow water assets in China & the identification & evaluation of new exploration & development opportunities either onshore or offshore China.
- Position will be for a Chinese national, Shekou based.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Play & prospect generation through application of a Petroleum System approach. Interpreting & evaluating existing company acreage as well as new venture opportunities within China (Offshore & onshore)
? Data room evaluations & the development of recommendations for management;
? Developing regional geological & stratigraphic frame-works & undertaking petroleum system analysis and risks assessment;
? Developing and recommending well locations and evaluation programs including Preparing recommendations & documentation in support of drilling and evaluation programs
? Providing geological interpretation for hydrocarbon volumetric evaluations
? Providing geological inputs into overall Developments plans & implementing project plans & schedules in a timely manner
? Providing operations support for geological & geophysical activities, including management of regulatory processes
? Interfacing with partners & government authorities

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Certifications:
- B.Sc. in Geosciences required
- M.Sc. degree or higher in Geosciences preferred
- Best understanding lab analysis and logs interpretation
- Strong command of the English language, with good oral and written communication skill
- Eligibility for APPEGA membership
Experience:
Role-specific (ie. knowledge & experience gained by working in a specific role. Include years required in the role)
- At least 10 years related industry experience
- 6+ years international working experience is preferred
- Good network of contacts within the Chinese petroleum industry
Industry-specific (ie. knowledge & experience gained by working within a specific industry. Include years required in the industry.)
- Strong knowledge of geology & Chinese regulatory
- 3D & 2D seismic interpretation
- Proven track record in prospect generation & mapping

Technical Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrated competency in both continental & marine depositional systems, including deepwater
- Knowledge of regulatory procedures for oil & gas exploration activities in China
- Sound knowledge of geology & geophysics, with a focus towards offshore exploration & offshore field developments
- Experience with a range of geoscience software
- Ability to work with Kingdom seismic interpretation platform
- Experience with inversion software
- Sound geological knowledge including Petroleum Systems
- Knowledge of depositional environments
