Role Purpose

Wood Mackenzie has embarked on a new venture to extend its expertise into core commodity petrochemicals. Wood Mackenzie is extending its expertise into this area as petrochemicals compliments many existing expertise areas and helps complete a fully integrated view. The global team is in the process of building an expert practice from the ground up starting from a limited third party database, which has compiled key data on capacities, production, demand, prices, etc. The team in this expert area is to build chemical supply/demand models, trade market analysis, production cost models, price forecast tools, etc.

The Chemical Consultant will be part of Wood Mackenzie’s chemicals team. The focus of activities will be to review China related information in this area and generate models and tools in coordination with the global team. The individual will work closely with the chemicals team which is being led out of the Wood Mackenzie Singapore office.

The successful candidate will work in a small global team considering and analysing China chemical market dynamics and forecasting both short and long term trends, supporting consultancy assignments. The role offers the opportunity for an individual to help build a new practice by developing forecasting techniques (supply/demand, pricing, production costs, and margins), analysis, manage/update key data, etc. This will be accomplished with industry contact coupled with extensive interactions with the chemical and other analysts around the globe, while working closely with other Wood Mackenzie consultants to deliver an integrated report.

Main Responsibilities with an emphasis on China

• Work closely with Wood Mackenzie’s macro-economic, energy, gas, oil and downstream analysts and consultants to develop an integrated energy-to-chemical view.

• Provide key inputs into a range of new petrochemicals related products, including short-term and long-term product market services, asset evaluations, and corporate evaluations.

• Support development and enhancement of new forecasting models for chemical product demand, supply, capacity, trade, costs, margins, and prices.

• Integrate and optimise analytics with Wood Mackenzie's existing proprietary tools and databases.

Key Competencies

• 0-5 years of experience in the energy, chemical and/or refining sector (manufacturing, research, service or other related company) in a technical, commercial or analytical role.
