Responsibilities:

Shell Projects & Technology (abbr. Shell P&T) is an integrated business of the Shell Group Companies,which provides supports of research,technology,operation,project management and consulting service. It mainly develops businesses in scope of oil products,natural gas and chemical products with Shell Group,Joint Venture,and third-party. Shell P&T has ambitious plans to grow the businesses in China and has established Shell China Projects & Technology (abbr. SCPT) in China of which Coal Gasification is part of the SCPT and is headquartered at Beijing.

The Gasification Mechanical Engineer in the China Technical Service Centre is responsible to provide engineering support on gasifier manufacturing and critical equipment to projects including coal gasification,Cansolv and downstream projects in China (design and engineering,technical assurance,start-up); operational support to current coal gasification 3rd party clients (consultancy,provide training,trouble shoot,de-bottleneck,etc) on critical equipment,improving reliability of plants by proactive monitoring,driving 1st quartile performance.

Responsible to provide mechanical engineering support to projects in SCGP (Shell Coal Gasification Process) including but not limited to gasifier and critical manufacturing,Cansolv and potentially downstream projects in China (design and engineering,technical assurance,start-up). In addition,he/she is responsible for mechanical engineering support to current coal gasification 3rd party clients in activities such as consultancy,training,trouble shooting,de-bottleneck,etc.; improving reliability of plants by proactive monitoring,driving 1st quartile performance.

On request of client participating in commissioning activities like: Coal circulation; Perform pre-Mechanical Completion Inspections (MCI)and MCIs together with mechanical team; Perform SAT and FATs together with control team; Perform boil out of water-steam system together with mechanical team; Update commissioning instructions; Start up assistance together with other teams; Assisting in performance tests and in trouble shooting.

Visit clients as a focal point and collect weekly information of the running plant trying to get to the root cause in cause of problems or trips. The frequency and the duration of stays at client’s sites may increase when client is moving into the commissioning phase and is approaching start-up. Visits are documented via a visit report. Deliver input to Lesson Learned database. Provide training to clients (classroom training,simulator training) and attending conferences.

You will be working in a team with a diversity of cultures and different disciplines. Most work is done under Service Agreements with 3rd party clients and with existing JV(s). Although not directly accountable for staff,the Gasification Mechanical Engineer is expected to coach and train junior staff

Requirements:

• BSc/MSc or PhD in a technical discipline, coupled with genuine and continuous interest in technology.
• Technical professional
• Must have a strong project delivery mindset and the ability to drive contributions from other groups against tight schedules.
• Experiences in design, maintenance and inspection of static equipment, piping are vital
• Relevant experience in an operating environment in SCGP plant, upstream and/or downstream is a plus.
• Should have 5+ years experience in design or service provision.
• Should have a good understanding of interactions between the different plant unit operations.
• Experience in the area of gas processing/treating is a plus
• Good proficiency in English and Chinese are essential
• Must have good communications skills (both verbal and written) to effectively interact with both internal and external customers
• The CTSC serves many 3rd party clients located in various parts of China and outside China such as Vietnam, Korea and potentially other parts of the World. Extensive travelling is required for this job.
