The Product Application Engineer is part of the VIAVI Wireless Business Unit. This position plays a critical role between VIAVI and key customers and users of the E/TM500, who are mainly international Mobile Network Equipment Manufacturer. He/she interacts daily with the customers and technical users of the TM500 system and advise the users on technical issues pertaining to the system. The Product Application Engineer is also critical in providing key information of the users’ environment, thereby helping to enhance product features and pre-sales opportunities.
The successful candidate must not only have strong technical understanding of 3GPP standards for User Equipment (UE) radio transmissions/reception on 4G/LTE and 5G, Layer-1, 2 and 3 protocols, he/she must also have good customer and communications skills. Previous experience in software development using C/C++ and Python is advantageous but not a must-have.

Major Responsibilities
? Participate in pre-sales activities such as Proof-of-concept, tender specifications discussions and other technical sales activities
? Installation and commissioning of new TM500/E500 systems and software
? On-site customer training
? Interoperability testing of TM500/E500 and customer base stations
? Troubleshoot and diagnostics of customer technical issues
? Work closely with Wireless Business Unit engineering team to resolve technical issues
? Build and maintain close relationships with key customers.

Pre-Requisites & Experience
? Experience of working in a technical discipline, preferably within a cellular environment, minimum 8+ years.
? Possess a deep understanding in protocols for cellular system according to 3GPP standards, especially in relating to UE
? Deep understanding of Layer 1, 2 (MAC, RLC, PDCP and SDAP sub-layer) and 3
? Familiar with O-RAN CUS & M Plane and CONF specifications
? Self-learning capability
? Flexible to handle different style people
? Ability to work independently
? Strong and broad background on various networks and communications technologies
? Work experience on testing either for handset or base station.
? University degree in electronics engineering, telecommunication engineering, or a similar discipline; Master’s degree preferable
? Able to work effectively alone, whilst being a team player
? Ability to work under pressure, and provide good quality work in a timely manner
? Must be enthusiastic, a clear verbal and written communicator (both in English and Chinese)
