Position Name : Senior Geologist

PURPOSE

The position of Senior Geologist is mainly to undertake the geophysical & geological (G&G) studies in relation to the subsurface domain of China assets, as well as technical DD of some New Venture opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Contributing to company’s in‐house G&G studies across all China assets, including operated and non‐operated assets.
• For the exploration assets, providing both geophysically & geologically based interpretations, analysis and recommendations. Generating solid geological concepts for the exploration prospects and leads, with appropriate risk and volume evaluations.
• For the development projects, ensuring the development program of the discovered oilfields is fit for purpose and as optimum as possible, via in‐depth geological studies on depositional environment, sedimentary facies, sequence stratigraphy, geological models, sensitivity tests and development well designs etc.
• Evaluating new exploration or appraisal opportunities and potential M&A targets and make sound risked‐based technical assessments.
• Following drilling operations, provide technical advice while drilling and contribute to decision making processes after consolidated all the well information (LWD/Mud Logging data, wellsite geological descriptions) and the updated subsurface maps/geological data.
• Making technical presentations to the relevant internal or external parties.
• Providing mentorship and guidance as required to all more junior geoscience staff via coaching appropriate G&G methods and approaches.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor/Master’s degree in Geology, Sedimentology, Structural Geology or a relevant geological discipline.
• 15+ years working experience on G&G studies. Knowledge of China offshore basins would be an advantage but is not essential.
• High level of competency and extensive experience in sequence stratigraphy, petroleum systems, geological interpretation and prospect evaluation, field development programming, drilling operation and well data analysis.
• Experience in using the G&G Software such as Petrel, Kingdom & Petrosys etc.
• A sound knowledge of petroleum geology and the ability to deliver technical observations/comments/recommendations for the exploration, appraisal and development projects, through detailed geological studies.
• Proven experience in field development, and the ability to interact with Geophysicists, Petroleum/Reservoir Engineers and Production Engineers to provide independent geological insights into field development process.
• Good communication/presentation skills in English – both writing and verbal.
• Motivated, self‐starting, willing and independent, with high level of initiative.
