BASIC FUNCTION

Working to assure product compliance to industry codes, standards, and regulations; and supporting the entire product life-cycle, initiates meaningful change, supporting strategies for cross functional teams. Proven ability to lead projects with global reach. Sought after for technical feasibility and guidance.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

·             Work closely with other functional areas to assure smooth transition from concept to production.

·             Support engineering teams to identify applicable standards, codes and certifications for new product development (ex. plumbing, toxicity, accessibility).

·             Lead cross-functional teams to get required certifications for Kohler products to be compliant in various markets, primarily Global Faucets in the Asia-Pacific region.

·             Participate in the development of Chinese national standards and track other regional national standards to gain influence and to benefit our brand.

·             Monitor updates to standards and codes that affect our products.

·             Provide standards interpretations to teams and internal test labs.

·             Provide customer support and resolve field issues.

·             Understanding of codes, standards, and regulations. (a) Primary – China; and Southeast Asia/ Australia (b) Secondary – North America, Europe, Middle East, and other regions.

MAJOR TASKS:

·             Establish product specifications and assist in the assurance of acceptability through product testing/analysis and material testing.

·             Assist in the development of product design within such specifications.

·             Be a liaison between Kohler and the field, providing strategic information support to Codes and Standards, Sales and Marketing, and Sustainability initiatives.

·             Disseminate technical data to other functional groups for business decision making.

·             Maintain understanding of installation methods and practices.

·             Maintain records and prepare communications as required.

·             Participate in the development of standards that are pertinent to Kohler products.

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS

Supervisory Relationships:

Reports to Manager-Engineering, Regulatory, Codes & Standards

Organizational Relationships:

·             Has contact with Customer Service to evaluate field claims, assist in field corrections, and develop product improvements.

·             Has contact with Purchasing to evaluate purchased items or materials for product specifications or revisions.

·             Has contact with Tech Pubs to evaluate roughing-in requirements, installation recommendations, and assist to generate installation instructions and related product information.

·             Has moderate contact with Industrial Design/Human Factors with reference to new or revised product.

·             Has moderate contact with Legal Department with reference to patent infringements and applications, product reliability and claims.

·             Has contact with other Global Engineering groups in the evaluation of a new design or a modification of an existing one.

·             Close working relationship with internal labs to coordinate testing to relevant standards.

External Relationships:

·             Attend codes and standards meetings and seminars to improve knowledge.

·             Has contact with customers and distributors to understand field installation problems and resolution of the problems.

·             Has contact with code agencies regarding listing of products.
