iRobot is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer focused on new product design integrating with engineering team from United States headquarters and China operations/manufacturing team, the ideal candidate has expertise in high-volume consumer electronics, plastic part design, engineering analysis, and global manufacturing. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for leading and supporting existing consumer robotic platforms continuous improvement, next generation platforms design and development.

What you can look forward to:

? Robust design to whole functional systems or modules from mechanical side, research and solve technical issues while meeting functional and aesthetic requirements.

? Verify and validate design solutions by utilizing rapid prototyping and conventional prototyping methodologies.

? CAD modelling by PTC Creo to generate mechanical layouts and detailed part design, lead brain-storm meeting, design review meeting, TSU, DFMEA, and tool DFM to manage and mitigate risks.

? Critically assess detailed mechanical designs, product definition, systems test and data analysis.

? Follow iRobot drawing standards and Tolerance Stack Analysis to generate drawings.

?Initiate and process engineering change requests to resolve deficiencies in designs, reduce costs, and improve performance.

? Perform root cause analysis for design, manufacturing, or operations issues in the product using six-sigma, and relentless root cause evaluation tools (fish bone analysis, FMEA, 5-whys etc.).

? Provide on-site support to contract manufacturers during prototype build, engineering build and PP build.

?Ensure design documentation is complete and accurate to final release to contract manufacturer to support mass production by using PTC Windchill PDM (Product Data Management).

?Integrate across systems engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, operations engineering, quality engineering, product management, and industrial design.

What you need to know (Qualifications):

? Bachelor or above in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

?Minimum 15 years experience in mechanical design (8 years experience in injection molded plastics part and mechanical systems design, preferred).

?Strong design fundamentals, first principles analytical and product definition methods, design experience with waterproof, air pressure, vacuum pressure products, water distribution system, Infrared radiation system are preferred.

? Strong CAD skillset with using Pro-E/Creo.

? Strong English skill both in oral and written.

? Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and prioritization skills.

? Product Data Management familiarization, model driven BOM (PTC Windchill, preferred).

? Finite element analysis familiarization preferred.

? Familiarization with risk ranking and risk management tools (DFMEA, RRCA, Six Sigma, preferred).
