The Supplier Development Team (SDT) is responsible for teaming with the Global Sourcing Management Team (GSM) for the overall relationship between Logitech and its suppliers. Where GSM manages the commercial and contractual relationships, SDT manages the day-to-day fulfillment of supplier's quality, cost and delivery commitments. SDT also provides resources for resolving issues and managing improvement. The major activities of this group include:
- Ensuring supplier performance through ongoing audits, problem avoidance and problem resolution.
- Supporting suppliers' efforts to improve business performance by reducing cost, errors, and waste.
- Managing change during a product's production, including demand changes, product engineering changes, component changes, and process changes.
The Senior Manager of the Finished Goods Supplier Development Team is responsible for hiring, evaluating, coaching, developing and managing the members of the SDT team based in Shenzhen. He or she will also perform all aspects of the SDT team members' role in a senior capacity, modeling expert supplier management skills, and handling supplier management issues escalated by the team.
Managing Supplier Performance and Improvement
The SDT team and its manager ensure that suppliers have or are improving towards, effective, reliable, robust quality systems that are capable of ensuring quality components and products to Logitech, its OEMs, and its customers. These individuals are expert in understanding, auditing, and developing high-performing quality systems. They are responsible for developing, planning and driving the implementation of prevention-based quality controls and for identifying, analyzing, and resolving issues quickly and effectively. Their duties include:
- Coaching supplier management teams on:
- Logitech's Quality, Cost & Delivery requirements
- Leading and supporting Lean initiatives
- Assessing, managing & improving quality systems and techniques
- Qualifying new suppliers
- Ensure Product Requirements can be delivered by prospective suppliers
- Review schedule and organize cross functional team for supplier qualification on site
- Review Supplier assessment risks and initiate risk mitigation plan with Supplier management team
- Manage supplier information in Qualified Supplier Information Data Base
- Launching new products with ODM/CDM/EMS suppliers and achieving manufacturing readiness and product acceptance for mass production
- Engaged with GSM /BU Engineering /PM and understand project requirements and expectations.
- Review new project requirements resources and project schedules to support project launch activities
- Review Pilot builds status (development stage) and ensures issues are well tracked.
- Documenting and communicating supplier's performance
- Perform quality trend analysis and pareto charting
- Compute and document process capability (Cpk) for all critical product characteristics.
- Establish and Maintain Supplier Scorecard Guidelines
- Work with GSM, engineering, and supply chain teams to consolidate scorecard inputs and present at supplier business review meeting.
- Ensuring supplier compliance
- Documented part and process certification documents
- DFMEA, PFMEA, and control plan documents
- ISO, TS or QC certification standards.
- Conducting periodic audits of supplier quality and manufacturing systems
- Ensure robust IQC and FQC processes capable of delivering 0 DPPM in out of box inspections.
- Ensure measurement systems are capable, repeatable and reliable. Calculate gage R&R statistics for critical measurements.
- Advise on supplier's part/product IQC decisions: dock-to-stock, sampling, quarantine, lot control
- Assess fabrication and assembly processes for balance, variability, error conditions, and waste
- Responding to supplier performance crises
- Participate in SCAR projects, and facilitate supplier root cause analysis
- Evaluate containment plans
- Monitor countermeasure and recovery plans
- Planning, coaching, and monitoring supplier improvement
- Set targets for supplier improvement
- Work with suppliers and test development engineers to implement error-proofing jigs, tools, and processes.
- Conduct DMAIC and DOE studies to better control process parameters.
- Develop value stream maps and audit supplier's lean characteristics
- Conduct Kaizen projects, with expertise in Cell design, autonomous maintenance, kanban systems, quick changeover, level scheduling, visual management, and 5S.
- Conduct value engineering projects and develop VE proposals.
- Training supplier's operators, supervisors and managers in Lean concepts and techniques
- Ensuring supplier performance through ongoing audits, problem avoidance and problem resolution.
