BASIC FUNCTION

Responsible for leading a team to standardize methods, create applications, and implementation of smart factory “best practices” throughout the network of Kohler Co. manufacturing sites. The candidate ensures that there is consistency in the way all smart factory operational technology (OT) processes are engineered, documented and sustained in the network while also acting as a laison to the IT organization.  The individual will drive strategic initiatives into building a data driven culture while maximizing the return on investment to improve throughput, yield, quality, prediction, and prescripition at Kohler manufacturing sites.

The Manager – Smart Factory, China, will act as a thought leader to develop project justification and prepare the financial planning of smart factory capital expenditures.  The individual will be able to adapt lessons learned from vastly different manufacturing processes and reapply the methods to design, layout, specify, and integrate smart factory plant processes.  In this role, the candidate will be technically capable to drive industry standards and set guidelines for electrical controls, communication networks, system software, and application development.  This includes providing leadership, analysis, design of the technical architecture, and facilitation of external system integrators to implement projects within region.

The candidate will actively lead the research of emerging technologies and usage in the industry to build future competitive advantage for Kohler’s manufuacturing processes.  The individual will partner with plant operations & engineering managers (and teams), along with close relationships to IT smart factory, network infrastructure, and the India Technical Center (ITC) for customized application development where applicable.

The manager is required to be a strategic thinker and have solid analytical, verbal communication, and presentation skills that can be used to influence and align CAPEX projects.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

he Manager – Smart Factory, China will provide the technical & business leadership to coordinate the following:

• Support the global strategy for smart factory solutions that provides the best balance of safety, quality, delivery and cost.
• Propose and implement the methods to standardize smart factory processes and ensure availability of process information through the business enterprise system.
• Ensures alignment of smart factory strategy through co-authoring White Paper and ACTs (authorized corporate transactions)
• Create foundation to collect, visualize, control, predict, and prescribe information within an integrated network that drives value chain transformation
• Lead and participate in organizational alignment discussions to prioritize project and plan resources.
• Create and enhance current methodologies of standard work and create  specific and guided methods from initial discussion through post auditing of the project. 
• Research and propose IT technologies (software, infrastructure, etc.) that will be used to converge IT/OT information digitization that can be shared regionally and globally.
• Generate ideas for wire frames and visualization techniques that guide internal application development (ITC) or system integrators.
• Ensure equipment and process smart factory readiness prior to kick off of projects.
• Develop business cases with supporting financial justification that illustrate the proof of value of the investment.
• Remain up-to-date on all methods of smart factory and related technologies.
• Deploy leading technological advancements to achieve SQDC improvements.

• Mastery of technological solutions according to the ISA-95 model.
• Collaboration with automation & equipment suppliers to provide process control requirements and offer design critiques and mitigation when required.
• Ability to create and/or understand value stream maps, time studies, and production schedules.
• Operational background with ability to seek & identify manufacturing and process problems. 

Other Skillsets (not required, highly desirable)

•  Beginner knowledge of robotics programming (Fanuc, Epson, UR)
• Beginner knowledge of PLC programming (Rockwell Automation, Siemens)
• Mechanical design theory with firm knowledge of GD&T.
• Intermediate AutoCAD design.
• Intermediate PLC communications, Kepware, and OPC UA knowledge.
• SCADA and MES level knowledge.
• Strong SQL, Oracle, and database understanding.
• Six Sigma methodologies.
• Lean manufacturing.

Reports to Director – Smart Factory, Manufacturing Systems & Process Technology.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or similar required.

10 years’ experience related to electrical control design, automation, and “Smart Factory” initiatives required.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.

Proficiency with SAP PRD is required.

30% global travel is required (minimum).

Must be self-motivated and have the ability to function within a project team environment.
