The Role

National Instruments Application Engineers ensure customer success at accounts by demonstrating the highest technical aptitude and professional engineering skills. They provide innovative solutions and deliver projects while becoming trusted technical partners for NI’s customers. This is a role that requires not only deep understanding of industry (Transportation) with domain knowledge, but also strong personal drive and can-do attitude to learn and solve customers’ application needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Process transportation related application requests with solid technical skills, mastering applications in more than one category of ADAS/AD, EV, connectivity/C-V2X, HIL for Real-time test, etc.;
• Work closely with Sales to provide advanced pre-sale and post-sale support for key account in transportation applications;
• Write and debug test programs in NI platform or 3rd party toolchains to solve customer's test problem for automotive or transportation applications;
• Create technical content for customers and sales, including white paper, Demos, presentations, etc.;
• Reproduce customer problems for software/hardware engineering to correct, and provide interim solutions to keep our customers' production flowing;
• Develop competitive benchmarks to differentiate us from the competition;
• Travel to customer sites to support Design Engineers, Test Engineers, Product Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers;
• Work with Sales and Marketing to develop sales and support strategies;
• Write and present technical papers at professional conference, NI days, etc.;
• Teach technical classes and seminars to customers and NI internal engineers;

Key Performance Objectives

• Achievement of key support objectives for assigned accounts/projects tied to project delivery, issues resolution, customer proficiency development;
• Recognized by customer and account manager to have contributed to customer success; building organization level loyalty to NI, as measured through satisfaction survey;
• Drive design wins, platform adoption and repeat business at key accounts.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor or higher degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math);
• Understanding of Automotive industry structure (OEM, Tiered supplier);
• 5+ years of relevant Automotive/Transportation industry experience in the areas of:
• All kinds of Automotive/Transportation sensors or control units testing and validation;
• Test Software and system development at architecture and management level, including test case development with 1 or more scenario generator software for ADAS ECUs and sensors like camera, RADAR, LiDAR, Ultrasonic, C-V2X OBU, etc.;
• Test Software and system development at architecture and management level, including test case development for EV and new energy related components, like ECU, Inverter, BMS, fuel cell, stack and cell level battery, Power/signal level motor HIL test, power grid, etc.;
• Text-Based Programming, C++, VB, Java, Python, etc.;
• Experience in developing in RT based microcontrollers, high frequency domain FPGA systems and have deep understand in all kinds of electronic hardware systems at BSP level;
• Experience in common automotive test engineering technologies: networking (CAN, LIN, FlexRay, Ethernet), diagnostic, real-time OS, etc.;
• Experience in communicating directly with customers at operation management level;
• Experience publishing technical papers and/or presenting in transportation industry journals and/or conferences;
• Willing and able to travel domestically or internationally, up to 20%;
• Project management skills and sense of urgency in project delivery;
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication skills, Fluency in English.

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical domain expertise in Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), Connected Vehicle,
• Electronic Vehicles (EVs), Model Based Design and/or Hardware in the Loop (HIL);
• Knowledge of National Instruments software and hardware platform, including LabVIEW, Veristand, PXI;
• NI Certification and products experience is a plus;
• RF background and deep knowledge is a plus.
