Scope:

This role is responsible for leadership of the water and wastewater treatment process development team of China RDE, to support global/local strategic business goals, meet customer requirements and lead execution of new process technology/project, Leads team which is responsible for the development of new products, new applications, and improvement of existing products through mathematical evaluation, laboratory, and pilot testing. The position is located at Xylem Chinas location in Shanghai

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for establish process development team; build engineering capability, expertise and competency in the group, to be in leading position in the regional industry.

• Leads water and wastewater projects, and initiatives with broad scope and high impact on the business, to support the overall company goal of 30% of sales from China, 50% of sales from new products and new product gross margins of 45%.

• Leads engineering team for WW treatment project execution: order design, drawings and BOM, commissioning and support solve quality issues.

• Develops approach to meet technical and program requirements and is responsible for overall development of Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), mass balances, and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), measurement and control systems.

• Internal consultant for major projects to ensure quality control, promote new technologies and implement best practices.

• Leadership of new process technology development and new process technology introduction from Xylem other VC, Organize and lead Xylem product development processes (XPD), implement program management and engineering data management.

• Key role of regional new product development strategic and budget plans, PAR preparation and get approval, subsequent control timeline and budget during implementation, balance between project schedule, quality and financial performance.

• Support and participant engineering management activities including but not limited to development of technology roadmaps, development plans, applications engineering and new product development.

• Leadership responsibility for China New Product Development, Sustaining Engineering, Test capability and Engineering related piloting.

• Build stronger technical capability within product development team to serve local strategic needs and delivering new products/solutions to customers.

• Work together with Sales, Marketing and Plant Engineering teams, ensure new project lunched on time and smoothly merge into Xylem China product portfolio, and ensure that products developed meet quality and reliability requirements.

• In collaboration with local Product Safety Leads, develops and implements a Product Safety and compliance program that assure Xylem’s products produced in country are compliant to the local and national laws, and also those of the export countries in which the products may be shipped to and /or used

• Consult or negotiate with clients to prepare project specifications, requirements, documentation and reports.

• Direct, reviews and approves product designs and changes.

• Maintains constant view of technological best practices, be aware of any opportunities for existing or new products to support business growth.

• Mentors and develop engineering talent of team members to ensure the future success of the product development team and supports talent development efforts,

• Support sales in specific bids or projects and may participate in negotiations of contracts, provide professional materials and solutions.

• Responsible for making policies, standards and procedures relative to the product development process, as well as supporting company wide policies and procedures.

Background/Experience:

• Minimum 10 year Engineering Degree or equivalent.

• BS/MS Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Biology or Chemistry

• Coursework in water and wastewater processes with working understanding of conventional water and wastewater treatment systems, industry standards.

• Advanced degree in field of Environmental Science / Engineering with background knowledge of microbiology, statistics, chemistry, water and wastewater processes a plus.

• Minimum of 5 years of leading a Product Design Center.

• Minimum of 7 years of Commercial Engineering Experience

• Minimum 5 years Engineering Product/Process Development experience in Municipal Water and Wastewater Treatment

• Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment equipment and process.

• Practical experience designing and developing water and wastewater processes.

• Instrumentation and control philosophy, knowledge of automation, control and system integration

• Proactive approach to planning, organization capabilities, and problem resolution

• Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written

• Capital and Expenses in a large team of engineers located in multiple locations.

• Strong English language skills and experience working for an MNC.

• Demonstrated competence in building & sustaining good Engineering Fundamentals for a remote Engineering Teams.

• Application of a distributed Global Engineering Change processes

• New Product Development & Engineering Metrics

• Cross-functional, collaborative product design processes

• Experience w/CAD, Failure Analysis, VA/VE a plus

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Access

• Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
