Oxford Instruments plc, a global technology-focused company with manufacturing facilities, offices and service centers worldwide, is seeking an Applications Scientist to join our China NA Team:

With a high passion and strong strategic development awareness in the science industry, you will be joining a team of professionals that is dynamic, innovative, and at the forefront of the nanotechnology instrumentation field.

Primary Purpose:

  • To deliver complete customer applications ownership from the point of enquiry through to product and usage life cycle.
  • To fully understand the relevant application techniques that will enhance customer applications.
  • To provide applications support, applications development and customer training on all Nano Analysis products particularly EDS, WDS, EBSD, Nanoprobing products and Gas Injection Systems for FIB in China and other territories if required. To establish and maintain a high degree of customer satisfaction and confidence by appropriate actions and attitude.
  • To support the direct sales team and OEM partners by conducting customer demonstrations of the EDS, WDS, EBSD and OP products, providing technical expertise, sales support and customer sample analysis.
  • To identify and develop influential relationships with significant current and potential customers in order to fully understand their needs, using this to facilitate both increased sales of current products and contribute to development of future products.
  • To collaborate and provide technical input to the sales and marketing teams to manage the programme of promotions activities across the territory including workshops, seminars, attendance at key conferences and exhibitions as well as digital campaigns on social media.
  • To manage demonstration and loan stock installed at both customers and OEM’s ensuring that targets are met for depreciation and utilisation.
  • To support the achievement of budgeted sales (value and volume), product mix; and to develop relationships by supporting distributors and customers in order to facilitate increased sales.

Key Responsibilities

Applications Support, Marketing Support and Sales Assist

  • To identify and engage with key customer accounts, both current and potential to define current and future analytical requirements.
  • To provide strategic technical input into the appraisal process of business opportunities in China.
  • Create and follow up new enquires promptly and efficiently.
  • Establishes and maintains an OEM partner training and development program. Adjusts program to meet the needs of OEM partners and market conditions consistent with the long-term goals of the company.
  • Carry out customer demonstrations, workshops / seminars and/or produce applications reports for customers.
  • To collaborate and provide technical input to the sales and marketing teams to assist manage the programme of promotions activities across the territory including workshops, seminars, attendance at key conferences and exhibitions as well as digital campaigns on social media.
  • To manage demonstration and loan stock installed at both customers and OEM’s ensuring that targets are met for depreciation and utilisation.
  • To support the achievement of budgeted sales (value and volume), product mix; and to develop relationships by supporting distributors and customers in order to facilitate increased sales.
  • Maintain good customer and OEM relationships, providing regular contact and developing self as technical “go to person” within the industry and projecting a professional and competent image of Oxford Instruments and its products at all times.
  • Maintain an accurate and up to date contact database using Infor CRM.
  • Manage the programme of promotions activities across the territory including workshops, seminars, attendance at key conferences and exhibitions.
  • Manage demonstration and loan stock installed at both customers and OEM’s ensuring that targets are met for depreciation and utilisation.
  • Participate in training and development activities as required.
  • Operate at all times in accordance with health and safety at work legislation.
  • Undertake any other tasks or responsibilities in line with the scope and level of responsibility of the role, which might reasonably be required.

Customer Contact

  • Communicate with customers and OEM partners in a timely manner concerning the status of application issues.
  • Promote a positive image of Oxford Instruments and CS in all communications with customers, microscope manufacturers and OEMs, whether in person, by telephone or in writing.
  • Ensure that all visits are properly prepared. This preparation should include liaison with microscope suppliers and OEMs.
  • Advice customers on the availability of Oxford Instruments instrumentation related options, upgrades, support contracts, and other service products. Ensure that the customer is kept up to date with latest product information.

General

  • Maintain and develop knowledge of assigned products and their common applications, undertaking appropriate training where necessary.
  • Assist in knowledge transfer by training customers and other company employees when required.
  • Maintain awareness of, and minimize where possible, the level of expense incurred in day to day support activities, both in terms of time involved and parts consumed.
  • Perform work safely at all times, maintaining an up to date knowledge of health & safety requirements and operating in accordance with health and safety at work legislation.
  • Participate in training and development activities as required.
  • Undertake any other tasks or responsibilities in line with the scope and level of responsibility of the post, which might reasonably be required.

Main working relationships:

  • Reports to the Applications Manager, China.
  • Works closely with sales team and management.
  • Works closely with customers.
  • Works closely with HQ and Regional Marketing Teams.
  • In addition to the above described duties, the post holder may be requested to perform other related duties.

Person Specification – Essential requirements unless stated

Education / Qualifications: Relevant material science degree essential, additional business qualification or PhD desirable

Professional Skills/ Abilities:

Must have experience of working with SEM, TEM and FIBs

Must have experience of dealing with customers in the field working with analytical instruments in a NanoTech environment in one or more of the following, test / repair / field service/applications

Good understanding of the part applications and methods play in the sales of the EDS, WDS, EBSD, GIS and Nanomanipulator products.Good understanding of customer requirements and how to use equipment to best effect to demonstrate this.

Ability to demonstrate EDS/ESD/WDS/GIS//Nanomanipulators would be an advantage.

Organised, with solid administrative/reporting skills and proficient PC skills including MS Office.

Must be prepared and able to travel and stay overseas as required without restriction, subject to normal visa requirements.

Proficient PC skills including MS OfficeFluent English (spoken and written)Clean driving license DesirableCommercially astute. Able to demonstrate EDS/EBSD/WDS/Nanomanipulators/GIS
