RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides overall EHS leadership on the site.
Develops plant-specific plans, goals, and programmes based on Corrporate strategies and direction.
Directs and maintains appropriate teams to provide the needed level of employee engagement and management leadership while deploying required policies, programmes and processes.
Develops and maintains necessary management systems, databases, websites and other information to achieve desired results.
Serves as spokesperson and visible champion for EHS excellence and continuous improvement.
Continuously identifies, assesses, and reduces/eliminates EHS risk and environmental footprint.
Works with the site management team to integrate EHS responsibilities into the positions of all employees and contractors.
Seeks external recognition and third party certifications for EHS programmes and processes.
Assures proper record-keeping of results in all areas of responsibility.
Develops effective and efficient reporting mechanisms that meet relevant regulatory requirements while keeping leadership informed of EHS performance.
Assures thorough investigation of incidents and accidents to identify and correct root causes.
Plans to deal with emergency situations that could adversely impact the environment, employees, the community and the company's reputation.
Assures compliance with all relevant EHS regulations and standards
Develops and deploys training programmes designed to meet regulatory and other requirements.
Develops and deploys procedures, inspections, and maintenance regimes designed to meet or exceed regulatory or other requirements.
Develops and directs internal auditing processes designed to identify and correct deficiencies against standards established by EHS regulations, third party organizations, customers and corporate management.
Assures that corrective actions are properly assigned to responsible parties, tracked through closure and followed up on as needed to assure timely closure.
Keeps abreast of country and local regulations, codes and relevant voluntary standards as well as customer and corporate requirements.
Establishes and maintains relationships with government authorities on matters of mutual concern including voluntary certification, maintenance of environmental permits, submission of required reports, and maintenance of data.
Maintains records and submits reports required by government agencies.
Directs and develops EHS staff members to maximize their contribution and job satisfaction
Defines responsibilities and accountabilities for each position within the department.
Works with others to create meaningful goals and work plans.
Measures progress, provides feedback and seeks to improve performance of members of the site EHS team.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education equivalent to:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering or a related field
Chartered EHS Practioner certification preferred.
Experience:
Minimum 10 years experience in safety, health and environmental compliance, preferably within the chemical industry.
Job related work experience skills/knowledge requirements:
(describes ideal and preferable experience but not the number of years)
Self motivated individual with good time management skills
Good IT literacy skills, specifically with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint). Experience using third-party web databases preferred.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
Excellent interpersonal skills. Individual must be able to build strong relationships across diverse groups and participate effectively on cross-functional teams.
Demonstrated leadership skills
Experience with implementing standards, procedures and training
Experience in overseeing the occupational health management function
