Visa and Local Compliance Support Officer (CHI-549)

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT/TEAM

China is one of British Council’s largest exams operations, delivering extensive international exams to individuals, institutions, schools and corporate clients in mainland China. Core tests we administer include IELTS, Aptis, and a wide range of academic and professional qualifications (Distribution Exams stream). The Distribution Exams stream in China encompasses school exams, professional exams, and university exams and is a critical part of our exams business.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING AND WHY

You will act as a mobility support point for IELTS examiner, to process visa and work permit application and provide mobility support to expatriate staff.

You will act as local personnel information compliance contact point and be responsible for relevant documentation preparation, payroll paperwork sign-off.

You will also support local social security, housing fund, tax and other local government benefit coordination.

WHAT IS INTERESTING ABOUT IT

In this role, you will gain rich experience through covering expatriates' visa/work permit application in China as part of the China Visa Hub and be the local contact point who needs to work independently in the region with practical communicative skills.

You will support local document compliance and staff statutory benefit claims to improve your skill of problem solving. Both knowledge and experience for Human Resources and Operations will be gained through the work.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

To qualify for the role, you will need to have:

1. Language Ability: English C1 (Aptis, IELTS 6.5 or equivalent); Chinese C1 (HSK 5 or equivalent)

2. Bachelor Degree

3. Experience in visa and work permit for expatriates

4. Experience in a multi-national organization / JV / foreign owned enterprise

5. Skill in handling visa and work permit for non-Chinese nationals in China

The British Council has had a presence in China since 1943, and since 1979 we have been operating as the Culture and Education Section of the British Embassy and Consulate-Generals in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chongqing. We also opened our first English centre in Mainland China in September 2017, based in Nanjing.
