Tasks and responsibilities:

Management

• Effectively lead and manage a team of researchers into creating analytical reports with original hypotheses that have market impact and client relevance

• In collaboration with GCP’s leadership prepare annual research business plans, including proposed deliverables, budget, KPIs, and full-time equivalent (FTE) assessment.

• Manage and/or coordinate team members and colleagues from other functions, as well as external stakeholders when relevant, for the preparation, publication and distribution or reports, the undertaking of ad hoc projects, and other activities

• Provide coaching as necessary to junior colleagues so as to improve their skills and ensure that they understand KPMG’s house view

  Research and analysis

• Prepare research proposals with clear and relevant hypothesis that can address GCP’s research needs and expand KPMG’s house view

• Produce or oversee the production of external and internal deliverables which meet all required criteria in terms of quality so that they can be released on a timely manner and without needing to undergo substantive revisions – e.g. Thought Leadership reports, presentations to clients, internal memos and publications, briefing materials for KPMG’s leadership, etc.

• Research and be up to date on the latest policy, regulatory and economic developments impacting China’s inbound and outbound investment trends and its business environment, as well as on ‘hot topics’ such as the ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative, the ‘Digital Economy’, and the ‘Green Economy’

• Review and revise junior colleagues’ work to maintain a high-quality level in their deliverables

• Attend, and when required by the leadership represent GCP, in internal and external events to gain market insights that can support GCP’s research activities; present our insights in a clear and effective manner; and expand the team’s network of contacts

• Help expand GCP’s network of senior-level external stakeholders; and liaise with them to gather practical insights that can improve the team’s understanding about relevant developments in the Chinese market and overseas, and that can help ensure that GCP’s deliverables are business-focused

Other tasks

When necessary, participate in meetings with clients to support business development activities, and to address relevant concerns from clients so as to further advance KPMG’s and GCP’s profile in the market

Required qualifications

• Postgraduate degree in relevant discipline – e.g. economics, public policy, public administration, political economy, business

• Minimum 8 years of working experience, preferably in fields such as research and analysis, public affairs, public policy, political risk, investigative journalism, etc.

• Strong awareness about China’s policy, economic and business environment

• Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken. Working proficiency in Chinese

• Strong administration and organization skills, with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously

• Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
