Job Summary:

Job purpose:
The R&D Technology Assessment Specialist will monitor, evaluate and report technology developments in China related to air separation processes and equipment; including technology developments by institutes, universities, suppliers and competitors.

Work scope:
The incumbent must be a self-directed individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, driven to proactively understand the connection between technical activity in China, and implications for the air separation industry. The person will work closely the with R&D team in the United States, as well as China business; independently generate and investigate technology leads, and execute projects related to Praxair's technology interests; and compile findings, assess opportunities and threats, and recommend follow-up actions. Success will be measured by your ability to provide technical intelligence which will ultimately drive Praxair's technology development efforts. The ability to speak, write and understand Chinese and English will be critical to your success.

Reporting relationships:
The person will directly report to China R& D director and indirectly to global Cryogenic Supply System & Productivity R&D Director

Key Responsibilities:

? Develop strategies to obtain industry intelligence on technology related to air separation.
? Gather information from various sources such as: universities, institutes, conferences, industrial companies, seminars and competitors.
? Search, evaluate, select and summarizing relevant information.
? Communicate information to R&D, business, and engineering organizations.
? Monitor Chinese air separation related intellectual property, patents and patent applications.
? Translate and summarize technical documents as appropriate.
? Establish professional contacts and facilitate potential technical exchange visits.
? Domestic and international travel up to 25% of the time.
Key Capabilities
Education: ? Master's degree (MS), preferably PhD, in Chemical or Cryogenic Engineering
Skills & Personal Attributes: ? 3 years of functional experience in R&D or engineering in the process industries, preferably air separation, gasification, or process development experience
? Must be able to speak, read, and write, Chinese and English; English and Chinese technical writing experience is a plus
? Familiar with unit operations used in process industries including turbo-machinery, heat transfer, distillation, and process control
