The Asian Venture Capital Journal (AVCJ) is looking to hire a research associate to be based in Shanghai.

AVCJ is the leading information and data provider for private equity and venture capital in Asia. Part of the product consists of a historical database of Asian private equity and venture capital (PE&VC) maintained on a daily basis by a team of analysts and deal researchers.

AVCJ is part of Acuris, the global financial intelligence and data provider. Acuris has a strong regional Asian presence, with offices in Hong Kong, Sydney, Shanghai, Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul and Mumbai.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for Japan/China Private Equity market. The role will primarily involve researching and processing information as well as offering unique opportunities to get full exposure to the Asian markets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

• Performing desktop research on real-time PE & VC transactions
• Interpreting financial data and other financial information in relation to the transactions
• Quality checking the historical database to ensure the deal records, company records and individual profiles are accurate and comprehensive
• Finding information sources and liaising with information providers
• Providing support to the Hong Kong team on the research projects

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION

The ideal candidate will have:

• Excellent communication skills in English and Chinese, business level in Japanese
• A Business, Finance, Economics degree or equivalent preferred but not essential.
• Strong understanding of company financial statements
• Good computer skills (especially Excel)
• Ability to sift through large volumes of information in order to extract relevant details
• Able to work independently and as part of a multicultural team across Asia
